Since you’ve been gone, I sit back and remember
Little things you said, and little things you’ve done.
Because, you see, it is the little things I treasure,
Memories of life and love, and the man you’d have become.
I watched you in your slumber, and wondered all the while
What must you have been dreaming,
What caused that tiny smile?
I see you on the beach below me, smiling in the sun
And miss the days we never had with the man you’d have become.
The doctors tried their very best, but how could they have known
That time was just not on our side, and how fast the cancer had grown.
Now your journey’s over, when it barely had begun,
And we are left to think about the man you’d have become.
