Integration of Calculators and the Classroom
There are many ways to get students interested in calculator programming. The number one rule is: once you start letting them program and use their programs, don't take them away. I know that may sound weird, but you may feel that the students are not doing enough work after they start making programs for the long, hard problems. Trust me, if they were able to make a program for it, they understand the problem.
Try these approaches:
Offer extra credit for a program for a certain type of problem
Assign a project in which the student must make a program, and show all the code and steps for his program
Allow free program use on homework and tests (not games, math)
Encourage those who do program, and promote programming repetitively
