Grandma's Coffee Cake
1/2 cake household yeast
1/4 cup sugar
1/6 cup warm water
Crumble yeast. Add sugar and water. Set aside.
Heat:
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 heaping tablespoon shortening
Pinch salt
1/4 cup sugar
Heat until shortening is melted.
Cool.
Mix all ingredients with 2 1/2 cups
flour and 2 small eggs. Knead. Let
rise to double. Punch down. Let rise
again. Form into loaf. Spread loaf
with egg white and milk mixture.
Cover with 1/2 teaspoon melted butter.
Sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 350
degrees for 40 minutes.
