First screened in the USA: February, 11, 1994

Credits: Director: Michael Lange
Writers: Scott Kaufer & Chris Carter
Starring: Guest Stars: Plot:
Is a dead man seeking revenge from beyond the grave? A case from Mulder's past returns to haunt him as a string of random murders with a familiar MO leads him to doubt the death of a man he put away on his first Bureau case. John Barnett swore to "get" Mulder when Mulder's testimony put him behind bars for life, but Barnett's death in prison put an end to that threat. Or so Mulder thought. Questions abound: Has Barnett returned from the dead, or is someone in the Bureau perpetrating a hoax to discredit Mulder? After Mulder's former supervisor is murdered, Mulder uncovers a strange story of illegal prison experiments and bizarre medical research. Has a rogue scientist turned John Barnett into a monster? Unless Mulder can find him first, the vengeful Barnett may make Scully his next victim.
My Rating: 6/10
An OK episode that shows some more of Mulder's past. The revenge theme is well played and the idea of someone having discovered a fountain of youth and reversed the aging process is done in a fairly interesting fashion.

Notable Quotable:
Scully: "Mulder, I know what you did wasn't by the book."
Mulder: "Tells you something about the book, doesn't it?"
Where Have I Seen That Face Before?

Producer's Comments
In preparing the scenes in which Mulder and Scully watch films featuring children with Progeria, the malady in which children age at an accelerated rate, producer Bob Goodwin enlisted the help of a support group for the disease. "We actually brought a little girl up from San Diego who had [Progeria]," Goodwin recalls. "Michael Lange directed. He has two little girls and I have a couple of kids, and... it was a very, very touching moment for all of us. We felt it was good becaues it made the disease viable, so it helped create more public awareness of all of it. On an individual basis, when we contacted the parents, we found out that they were big fans of the show, as was the little girl. It was almost like a 'Make a Wish' kind of thing, it was wonderful."
