James T. Gardner II
Vernal Utah – James Thomas Gardner, 46, Vernal, died April 7 in a Vernal
hospital of an accidental gunshot wound. Born August 4, 1920, American Fork, to
Reed and Myrta Parker Gardner. Married Norma Nielsen April 18, 1941
Taylorsville. Member Masonic Lodge; Elk’s; Vernal Kiwanis; American Legion.
World War II veteran. Employee of Mountain States Telephone Co. Survivors:
widow; son, daughter, Jimmy, Vernal; Mrs. Carlene Bishop Salt Lake City, foster
daughter, Mrs. Faye Eskelsen, Sandy; 6 grandchildren; borther, Howard P.,
Lincoln, Montana; stepmother Mrs. Reed Gardner, Salt Lake City. Funeral
Tuesday 1 p.m. Salt Lake Masonic Temple 650 East South Temple. Friends call
Vernal Mortuary Monday -9 p.m., Tuesday at Masonic Temple one hour prior to
services. Burial Redwood Memorial Estates.
Sarah Jane Hill Gardner
American Fork - Mrs. Sarah Jane Hill Gardner, 80, an American Fork resident
many years, died of causes incident to age Monday at Provo.
She was born July 21, 1869, in Millville, Cache County, a daughter of Joseph and
Sarah Crosby Hill. She had resided in Salt Lake City a number of years, after
moving from American Fork some 10 years ago.
Mrs. Gardner had been active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
hile resideing in American Fork.
Her husband, James T. Gardner I, died October 1, 1947.
Surviving are five sons; Redd, T. William and Frank T. Gardner, Provo; R. Glenn
Gardner, Pasadena, Calfornia, and Richard A. Gardner, Los Angeles, California;
eight grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, a great-grandchild; a brother,
Richard Hill - Salt Lake City, and four sisters, Mrs. Fannie shipley, Los
Angeles; Mrs. Susan Bingham, Smithfield, Cache county, and Mrs. Margaret
McCracken and Mrs. Charlotte Bowman, Ogden. A daughter, Mrs. Erwin A.
Christensen, died a number of years ago.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Anderson Mortuary, American Fork.
Civic Leader Dies At S.L. Residence
Funeral services will be conducted in American Fork for James T. Gardner,
1205 - 7th East, former mayor of American Fork and Utah county
commissioner, who died at his home Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. of causes incident to
age, He was 84.
Born in American Fork May 29, 1863, a son of James and Jane Threlfall
Gardner, he was enployed approximately 30 years in the harness department of the
Chipman Mercantile Company in American Fork. He was bishop of the American Fork
First ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 27 years.
Coming to Salt Lake City six years ago, he had been employed as a gardener on
the Salt Lake LDS Temple grounds until two weeks ago. He married Ruth Greenwood
and she died in 1892. On December 12, 1894, he married Sarah Jane Hill in the
Salt Lake City; Reed Gardner, Denver; R. Glenn Gardner, Oxnard, CA, Frank T.
Gardner, Provo and Richard H. Gardner, Los Angeles; 15 grandchildren, 14
great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Ada Hickman Gardner
Provo - Mrs. Ada Hickman Gardner, 55, wife of Provo City Commissioner Frank
T. Gardner, died Mondat at 4 p.m. in a Salt Lake hospital of a blood infection.
Mrs. Gardner was active in Provo civic and church activities and was a member
and past president of Provo American Legion Auzilliary. She was a member of
Acacia Club, Provo Women’s Council and the American Red Cross Nurses Aid group
here.
Active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mrs. Gardner had
served as a Primary Assn., Young Ladies Mutual Improvement Assn. And Relief
Society teacher in Provo First and Sixth LDS wards.
She was born October 6, 1896, in Provo, a daughter of George H. and Emma Homer
Hickman. She attended Provo schools and for a number of years was employed as a
clerk with the W.R. Butler Store.
She was married to Mr. Gardner February 25, 1920, in Salt Lake Temple. They
resided here since their marriage.
Survivors include her husband, Provo; two sons, Frank H. and Richard M. Gardner,
both of Provo; three daughters Mrs. Chester L. (Marjorie) Fults, Altamont,
Tenn., Mrs. Mark (Ehelen) Goold, Greely, Colo., and Mrs. Dwaine (Adene) Houts,
Orem; eight grandchildren; two brothers, George H. and Albert H. Hckman both of
Provo.
Funeral Arrangements will be announced by Berg Mortuary.
Ada Hickman Gardner
Provo - Funeral services for Mrs. Ada Hickman Gardner, 55, active Provo
church and civic worker who died Monday will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. in
the Berg Drawing Room chapel.
Bishop Gregory E. Austin of the Provo Park Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints will officiate.
Mrs. Gardner died at a Salt Lake hospital of a blood infection.
Friends may call at the mortuary Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday prior
to services. Burial will be in Provo City Cemetery.
She was the wife of Provo City Commissioner Frank T. Gardner.
Frank T. Gardner II
Frank Threlfell Gardner, 75, 1581 East Parkway Avenue died April 6 in a Salt
Lake hospital of natural causes. Born February 7, 1896, American Fork, to James
T. and Sarah Hill Gardner. Married Ada Hickman, February 25, 1920 Salt Lake LDS
Temple; she died February 11, 1952. Married Ina McKay Cameron, June 6, 1953,
Salt Lake City. Veteran WWI. Retired owner Gardner Insurance Co., Provo City
Commissioner 1950-54. Member Provo Rotary Club, Post Commander Provo Post,
American Legion, Former bishop provo Sixth LDS Ward. Survivors; widow; sons,
daughters, Frank H. Provo; Richard M., La Crescenta, CA; Mrs. Chester (Marjorie)
Fults, Altamont, Tenn.; Mrs. S. Mark (Helen) Goold, Davton, Wyo.; Mrs. Dwaine (Adene)
Houtz, Bountiful; 18 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild; stepson, stepdaughters,
Robert J. Cameron, Mrs. Elson (Catherine) Linschoten, Mrs. G.S. (Carolyn) Gundry,
all Salt Lake City; 4 step grandchildren. Funeral Saturday noon. Berg Mortuary,
Provo, where friends call Friday 6-8 p.m. Saturday prior to services. Burial
Provo City Cemetery.

Frank T. Gardner (1917) died on the 7th in Salt Lake of natural
causes. He was born in American Fork, Feb. 7, 1896. He was first to enlist in
the Army form Utah County during WWI, joining the medical Corps July 4, 1917,
and serving in the Army unti lhis discharge as a 1st Lt. In 1918. He
served as an employee of the Springville Sugar Co., and later established the
Gardner Insurance Agency. It later merged into Kolob realty and Insurance Co. of
Provo. He served as Provo City Commissioner from 1950 - 1954. He married Ina
McKay Cameron on June 6, 1953. At the time of his death, he was serving as
bishop of the Provo 6th ward. Survivors include his widow, two sons,
and three daughters. Ina McKay, 1581 East Parkway, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Reed Gardner 71, 1205 7th East died Friday 6:45 p.m. at his home
of natural causes. Born July 12, 1888. Born July 12, 1888, American Fork to
James T. Gardner and Ruth Greenwood Gardner. Married Myra Parker in 1911, Salt
Lake Temple Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She died in 1941.

Church. Survivors: Widow; sons, stepsons; Howard P. Eureka; James, St. George;
Garth and Corwin Nielson, both Denver; eight grandchildren; three borthers,

Monday 6-8 p.m. Tuesday prior.

Young Matron Laid at Rest in American Fork
American Fork - May 13. - Funeral services were held today in the Alpine
Stake Tabernacle for Mrs. Ruth Gardner Christensen, 23, wife of Ervin A.
Christensen of Salt Lake City and daughter of Bishop and Mrs. James T. Gardner
of this city, who died Monday following the birth of a son.
Mrs. Christensen is srvivied by her husband and parents and the following
brothers; Reed and Richard of this city, T. William of Salt Lake City, Frank of
Price and Glenn of Provo.
The speakers at the services were Bishop Heber C. Iverson of Salt Lake, Thomas
A. Greenwood and John H. Davis of this city and Garn Carter of Provo. The floral
offerints were profuse. Interment was in the local cemetery.

Logan Oct. 2. Funeral services for Joseph Hill, 91, Smithfield pioneer, will
be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Smithfield Third Ward chapel.
Mr. Hill is survived by the following children; James Hill, Twin Bridges,
Montana; Joseph C. Hill, Seattle, Washington; R.N. Hill, Malad, Idaho; Harper
Hill, Logan; Frank H. Hill, Smithfield; Mrs. Fannie Shipley, Salt Lake; Mrs.
Sarah Gardner, American For; Mrs. Susan H. Bingham, Smithfield; Mrs. Margaret
McCracken, Ogden, and Mrs. Elise Bowman, Portland, Oregon.
Fannie Hill Shipley
Mrs. Fannie Hill Shipley, 87, a former resident of American Fork and Salt
Lake City, died Wednesday at her home in Los Angeles of pneumonia, relatives in
Salt Lake City learned Thursday.
She was born January 15, 1865, in Smithfield, Cache County, a daughter of Joseph
and Sarah Crosby Hill. The family moved to American Fork when she was a child
and she resided there until 1920 when she moved to Salt Lake City.
Mrs. Shipley was an active member of the Relief Society of the Sixteenth Ward,
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She moved to Los Angeles in 1938
and had resided there since.
She was married to Joseph Shipley who died in 1944 in Los Angeles.
Surviving are five sons and daughters; Ray Shipley, Mrs. Ema Boll, Warren
Shipley, and Mrs. Naonia Brown, all of Los Angeles and Clarence Shipley of Idaho
Falls, Idaho. Eighteen grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and three
sisters; Mrs. Margaret McCracken, Ogden; Mrs Susan Bingham, Smithfield, and Mrs.
Elefie Bowman, Salt Lake City.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Anderson Mortuary in American
Fork.
