Tea Cakes
Bread-like cookies that go with tea time.
1 cup sugar
1 cup butter
2 eggs
1 tablespoon water
1 teaspoon vanilla
Dash of salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
4 cups flour
Cream the sugar and butter. Add the eggs, alternately, beating after each
addition. Add the water and vanilla.
Sift the dry ingredients together and mix into creamed mixture. Cover and
chill 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Roll out the chilled dough to a thickness of
slightly less than 1/4 inch. Use a 2-inch biscuit cutter or a glass to make cookies. Place on ungreased baking sheet and bake for 12 to 15 minutes. Yield: 6 dozen.
