How to Transload

How to Transload

Transloading may be intimidating at first, but once you get the basics down, you'll wonder why it ever scared you to think about it. I know. When I first came on line, I was afraid of it, and felt it was way over my head. Not so. We'll start first with some definitions, then go on to explanations of the various Transloaders. Before you can transload, you need a web page. Instructions for that will be in the kit, too.

Definitions

TRANSLOADER: A service that makes it possible for WebTV users to transfer Web page graphics and files using FTP. This process 'copies' the item to your own homepage directory.

FTP: (File Transfer Protocol) A method by which files are transferred over the Internet from one Internet device to another. In order to FTP a file, you need to use an FTP program. WebTV viewers use a Web based FTP program called a Transloader.

Address: Web page address The Internet address of a Web page, also called a URL (Universal Resource Locator). If you know the address of a Web page, you can go directly to that page by using WebTV's Go to feature. To find the URL of a Web page, select the Info button on your keyboard, or press Options and then Info on your remote, while viewing a particular Web page. It will begin with 'http://".

URL: (Universal Resource Locator) Web pages are identified by their URL, or Internet address. An Internet address is to a Web page what a street address is to a residence. If you know the Internet address of a Web page you can access it directly by using the Go To feature. To find the URL of a Web page, select the Info key on your keyboard, or press Options and then Info on your remote, while viewing a particular Web page. A example of a URL is:

https://members.tripod.com/~Bev_RN/transloading .html

This is the 'url' or 'address' of this page.

Cookies Cookies are electronic packets of information that a Web page gives out to visiting Internet users. Cookies have many uses, the most common of which lets Web pages offer custom information to its visitors. For example, while viewing a specific Web page, you may be asked to provide your name and a few comments about your personal interests. The next time you visit that page, you may be presented with a welcome message that includes your name and content specific to your personal interests. With the transloaders, if you tell it to 'save cookies' the next time you go back, your account name and password are already there for you. You just need to supply the URL of the item you wish to copy and rename it to something you choose.
