An interesting meeting of the Sabbath School committees was held at the Baptist church last Tuesday evening, for the purpose of initiating arrangements for a May-day Festival. Superintendant [sic] J. A. Ramsey presided at the meeting; and a committee composed of Messrs. W. W. Heard, R. B. Dawkins and B. Honeycutt, was appointed to procure a May-pole. A committee of ladies composed of Mrs. Loluella Dawkins, Misses Mollie Pickle, Jessie Thompson, Corrine Lee, Willie Baker, Lizzie Guehring and Mary Fenton, was appointed to prepare floral decoration for the occasion. The grove near the Academy building was selected as the place for holding the picnic or festival, and it is expected that the patrons and friends of both schools will unite in furnishing an ample supply of edibles, and contribute in every was [sic] possible, toward making this affair an enjoyable one.
Corinne married William J. TURNAGE on 8 Jan 1890 in Union Parish, Louisiana.

Louisa married John Jordon AULDS son of Elijah (David) Michael AULDS and Margarette Jane WARD in Montgomery County, Alabama. John was born 1 in 1831 in Sumter County, Alabama. He died in 1905 in Farmerville, Union Parish, Louisiana. He was buried 2 in Liberty Hill Cemetery, Union Parish, Louisiana.

Timothy D. Hudson hudsont@mail.ecu.edu 2002-11-16 06:08:34 John J. Auld was not born in Sumter County Alabama, but rather in Lowndes County Alabama. On his 1898 Confederate pension application, John J. Auld stated: "I was born in Lowndes Co Ala Oct 15 1831". This seems pretty clear. Some family sheets passed around give the Sumter Co Alabama birthplace for J. J. Auld, but they are incorrect. Court records of Lowndes County and U.S. government records prove that John J. Auld's father Elijah Michael Auld did not live in Sumter County Alabma in 1831, but rather he owned land in Montgomery County. However, while Elijah M. Auld owned land in Montgomery County, his father John Fields Auld and Margaret's father Elisha Ward both lived in southern Lowndes County. Elijah Michael Auld's land in Montgomery County lay northeast from his parents in Lowndes, located in what is now Elmore County Alabama, then Montgomery County. He bought land there in 1831. A few years later, in the mid-1830s, is when the Wards and Aulds and others began leaving central Alabama and moving west. Elijah Michael Auld may well have lived in Sumter County AL for a brief time in 1834 or 1835, but by March 1836 he was a resident of Kemper County Mississippi (just across the Alabama/Mississipi state line from Sumter Co AL), where he lived during the year 1837. He left MS after the 1837 growing season and moved with his father-in-law Elisha Ward to what is now Union Parish Louisiana, then northern Ouachita Parish.
