Charles won the undisputed national championship in his Light B Modified car. He also picked up an additional national championship in his Light Modified car at the Eastern Grands the same year. By the way, the win at the Dirt Grands in Terre Haute was his first time ever racing on dirt. Charles also raced his quarter midget at Junior Sprint Cars of America (JSCA) events. He is also a JSCA All Star with numerous wins. Charles left quarter midgets at the end of 1997 and started racing Legends Cars at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) in early 1998. He has raced his Legends Car at both AMS and Lowe Motor Speedway. Charles has competed in other Legends Cars races at Dublin, Albany and Senoia, all in Georgia. He has also raced on both the oval and road course at AMS. In 1998 Charles competed in the Young Lion/Charger Divisions finishing second in points at AMS during Thursday Thunder Series. Charles will compete as a Semi-Pro in 1999 racing at some AMS races. He will donate his winnings from his races at AMS to Speedway Children's Charities during the 1999 race season. On May 8, 1999, Charles competed in his first NASCAR Winston Racing Series Late Model Stock race at Lanier National Speedway. He will run a limited schedule in 1999 at Lanier National Speedway. He drives a 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and uses the number 8 as he did in Legends Cars. Joey Clanton of Stockbridge, GA is his crew chief. Charles has been published in Sports Illustrated, Racing for Kids Magazine, Coast-to-Coast, Area Auto News, Atlanta Journal and Constitution, and numerous local papers in Henry County, GA and across the country.
