Make a Rain Gauge
Remove the label from a clean peanut butter jar. Attach a plastic ruler to the side of the jar with rubber bands or you could mark the jar with the appropriate measurements with a sharpie pen. Check the jar daily so the kids can see how much rain has fallen. You could even record the daily amounts on a graph.

Recycle
Gather an assortment of items such as plastic containers and lids, soda bottles, magazines cardboard, bubble wrap, pop can plastic rings, cardboard paper towel and toilet tissue rolls. Also provide wiggle eyes, craft sticks, pipe cleaners and construction paper. Then allow the kids to use their imagination and make a creation.

Rocks
Go out and allow your child to gather some rocks. Find some averaged size ones. At least 2-3 inches round. Bring the rocks back and allow your child to paint the rock. After it dries then the child could paint on faces and have a pet rock.

Red
Give your child an assortment of red craft items, such as tissue paper, pipe cleaners, pom poms decorative paper, and buttons, glitter, ribbon, ect. Then let the child make a red round collage.

Songs, Finger Plays & Nursery Rhymes

Rock chant
(Have the kids tap 2 rocks together to the beat)

Rocks are found
All around
Under the ocean,
And in the ground
Some are big
Some are small
Some are even very tall
Rocks are used
For many things
Chalk and roads
And stones in rings
Bridges and buildings,
A fireplace too
I’m sure rocks are found
Somewhere near you!

Rain Song

Rain, Rain, go away
Come again another day
Little (child’s name) wants to play.

Rain Finger play

Rain on the green grass. (Flutter fingers down to ground.)
And rain on the tree. (Flutter fingers up over head.)
Rain on the housetop, (Make upside down "V" with hand and arms.)
But not on me! (Circle arms over head to make umbrella.)

Rain
(Tune: Row Row Row Your Boat)

Rain, rain falling down, (Flutter fingers up and down.)
Landing all around. (Move arms out to sides.)
What a lovely sound you make (Cup hands behind ears.)
Splashing on the ground. (Wiggle fingers up and down.)
