Silhouette of a Child Submitted by Ruth (RUTHJRC)
Make a silhouette of each child and print this poem. Mount it on board suitable for framing.

Today I left some dishes dirty.
The bed got made about two-thirty.
The crumbs I spilt the day before
Are staring at me from the floor.
The dirt streaks on the windowpanes
Will still be there next time it rains.
“For shame, oh lazy one” you say
And just what did you do today?
I rocked Chantelle until she slept.
I held my daughter while she wept.
I played a game of hide and seek.
I squeezed a toy to make it squeak.
I pulled a sled, I sang a song,
I taught my child right from wrong.
What did I do the whole day through?
Not much shows, I guess it’s true.
Unless you think that what I’ve done,
Might be important to someone
With bright brown eyes and soft brown hair.
If that is true, I’ve done my share!

Change each child's name, son or daughter, he/she, hair and eye colours in the appropriate spots in the poem.

Painted Frame & Poem Submitted by Ruth (RUTHJRC)
Copy the poem and then take pictures of each child. Mount the poem and pic on board suitable for framing. The children can splatter paint a frame.

Cherish the Children
Cherish the children and show them you care.
The power in our hands is the love we can share,
Share it forever, it grows and it grows.
Look in their eyes and you'll know.

The earth is a magical place to the young.
From the wind in the trees to the warm morning sun.
Why must the spirit fade as we grow?
They keep us young, and we never grow old.
Sometimes I wonder just who teaches who.
Sometimes I wonder, I do.

Cherish the children and show them you care.
The world is a garden that we all share.
Tend to it gently and nurture it slow,
The hopes of tomorrow will grow.

other decorative items

Clean and dry baby food jar. Decorate outside of jar with lace, paper, gift wrap, or items of your hcoice by glueing on jar. Decorate lid as well. Fill jar with bath crystals. Put lid on tight and tie with ribbon or lace.

Pop Art
Fold a lightweight paper plate in half; then unfold. Draw and color a background scene inside the paper plate; then refold the plate. Cut two identical slits (about 1") in the fold (in the center of the plate) approximately 1/2 inch apart. Cut two more identical slits on either side of the center one. When all tabs have been cut, open the plate and fold the tabs to the inside. Attach a construction paper flower or figure to each tab to complete the picture.

Variation: To turn this project into a Mother's Day Card - Attach a piece of construction paper to the back of the paper plate and decorate!

Mother's Day Flower
Mom's will cherish these flowers! To make them, glue a sheet of white paper on to a larger sheet of construction paper. Paint the child's palm a color chosen by the child and his fingers a different color; then press their hand on to the paper. When paint is dry, glue construction paper leaves and stem below the flower. The child can then paste a heart into the center of the flower blossom. Glue a typed or hand written copy of this poem below the flower. Print the child's name and date on the paper (or have child do it). You may want to add "Happy Mother's Day" at the top!

A piece of me,
I give to you.
I painted this flower
To say, "I Love You."

The heart is you,
The hand is me.
To show we are friends
The best there can be.

I hope you will save it
And look back some day
At the flower we shared
On your special day.

Sprinkle a few gold or silver sparkles...add a ribbon around the top and place a small votive candle in the jar.
