Balloon Kid By Nintendo Review by The Avardancer Size: 512 Kilobits Save: None. Released: 1989 Works with: Any Version of Gameboy Opening Snide Remarks: Oh, this is..... cute. "Joy". It's also a "sequel" to the old arcade and NES game "Balloon Fight". Gameplay: Ignore the fact that it is a little cute; because this has some really unusual gameplay. It's actually a fun ride. And I do mean ride. The levels all auto-scroll and you have to ride some balloons through each level while avoiding all sort of nasty things that can kill you in an almost infinite amout of ways. There's also bosses that you have to beat. (You have to dump the balloons to do this though.) There are bonus levels too. The bonus levels consist of collecting ballons for a 1-up. Graphics: The graphics are fairly clear. They seem reminiscint to Super Mario Land; but they are slightly larger. They do the trick. The bosses look interesting, the levels are graphically coherent with each levels theme. Sound: The sound does the trick by applying appropriate sounds for various actions. Music: This is definately the BEST thing about this game! The music is worth listening to. There isn't a bit of music in this game that I don't like. The music adds to the fun. Play Control: Slides on purpose in some spots. (Like on Ice.) Alice (The Heroine) can catch some air. She jumps higher than Mario. It's easy to pump up your balloons too. (Don't take that wrong....) The play control does the trick. Final Anlysis: Want a good platform game? Don't mind the "cute" deal? This is a good game to get. I do think that all the ways that Alice can die are little violent though. (Cartoon Violence) Actually, that "violence" is just what stops it from becoming too "cute". I would suggest this to people who love and appreciate good platform games. Did I forget to mention that it has two modes of play and a 2-P Versus/Co-op mode?
