Baseball Game by Nintendo Reviewed by Adrock gbcam@hotmail.com Size: 512 Kilobits Save: None Released: 1989 Works with: All Game Boy **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: When you think of Baseball and video gaming, you think about Junior MLB, and ASB 99. Well, back in 1989, when they played Baseball they played Baseball. Just baseball. And it was just average, too. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: Terribly slow. Terribly tough. When the computer is infield, they are incredibly fast, while when you're infield you are terribly slow. And vice versa. Only two teams, the "Bat First" team, (Bears) and the "Pitch First" team (Eagles). It can be moderately fun when you get a point, but have no fear because they will catch up. Liked: Fun at times. Hated: So slow and difficult that the computer will beat you harder every time you play. Only two friggin teams. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The word of the day is simple. You can expect this from a first-generation game. But Nintendo did improvise on some of the things that other baseball games were doing at the time, with a map screen in the corner, and zoomed up play. Liked: Looked nice at the time. Hated: These kind of games need a lot more detail. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: This music and these Sound FX would feel at home on an Atari 5200. The little songs were enjoyable though, and made me feel good inside. Ahhhh. Liked: Cool little songs. Hated: Like all software during the first years of a system, this game took little advantage (I'd say about 10%) of what the Game Boy has to offer as a system. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Blech. This game feels slow. It's almost like gravity is playing keep-away when you throw the ball. Control has a tendency to make people frustrated. Liked: Nothing. Hated: Difficult controls. Slow. And it feels like they tried to make it that way. **************************************************************************** Improve: I think they have done what they could to improve with Ken Griffey Jr. RIYL: Baseball. **************************************************************************** Final Words: It's one of few first gen games that I wouldn't recommend. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ** Graphics: ** Sound/Music: ** Play Control/Game Design: * Personal Opinion: * Total: 8 out of 25 Final Score: %36 **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
