Batman Game by Sunsoft Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Size: 512 Kilobits Save: None Released: 1990 Works with: all Gameboy models Opening Snide Remarks: Will the Batman movie license live up to it's name? Gameplay: The gameplay in Batman is a run-and-gun type of game. Batman can shoot his Bat-a-rang and jump from platform to platform. There are bad guys galore to fight, although they are all very generic. Batman can pickup power-ups that range from different weapons to extra guys. Graphics: The graphics are first-generation Gameboy graphics. The cinema screens are excellent. They are very well-drawn, very detailed still pictures of the Caped-Crusader. The in-game graphics are a different story. Batman and his enemies are small, squatty characters. They appear to have escaped from the "Wizard of Oz" (munchkins). Sound: The sound effects are good enough. They get the job done, but they're not spectacular. Music: The music is pretty good and it fits the game well. It is somewhat reminiscent of the score of the first Batman film. Play Control: The control in Batman is pretty good, but it's overly simplistic. The "A" button makes Batman jump while the "B" button makes him shoot. Batman himself controls rather well, though. Final Analysis: Batman is a decent enough game that you may be pleased with. The graphics are bad, but the control is alright. But poor game design really is the thing that kills the game for me. Batman should not have to jump every few steps. This is not a Mario game, it's supposed to be a Batman game. Score Gameplay: *** Graphics: ** Sound: ** Music: *** Play Control: *** Total: 13 out of 25 Final Score: 52% Currently Known Codes: None
