CastleVania II: Belmont's Revenge Game by Konami Reviewed by Adrock gbcam@hotmail.com Size: 512 K Save: Password Released: 1991 Works with: Any Game Boy **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: Hmmm... CastleVania Adventure was cool. Does the sequel have any room for improvement? **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: You choose your level from a choice of four levels, Crystal Castle, Cloud Castle, Plant Castle, and Rock Castle. It's still your basic old whip action/adventure. It does improve on the last game, a lot. It's a really fun game. Liked: Fun! Challenge! Oh, and passwords! Hated: Does it end too fast, or do they want you to play it over and over? **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The graphics look better than Adventure. More of a scary, gothic look, and better frame rate. Cool. Smooth. Liked: Lots of detail. Hated: Hmm... **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Wow! The sound FX and music have also skyrocketed since last time! The music is scary. It scared me almost as much as Metroid II on SGB in the dark with the pitch black frame. But this time, I was playing Castlevania, and I could see fine. Liked: Music is... I admit it, scary. Hated: Nope. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Sigh... Jumping and hit detection still feels weird. But, it's a big improvement. Liked: Little improvement here. Hated: Jumping, Hit detection. **************************************************************************** Improve: Color. More levels. RIYL: The other Castlevanias, Adventure games. **************************************************************************** Final Words: Hmm. If you liked Adventure, you'll like this even better. Cool. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: **** Graphics: ***** Sound/Music: ***** Play Control/Game Design: **** Personal Opinion: ***** Total: 23 out of 25 Final Score: %92 **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: Extra Life In the first level, do not whip the first ten candles. In the first stage, you must climb ropes to get through the level. The second to last rope, on the right-hand side of the screen, leads to a platform with a tree stump and 2 graves with crosses visible. If you climb up this rope above where it appears to end at a brick wall, you will climb into a hidden room with four power-ups. Secret Room in Stage 2 In the second part of the stage, where you have to choose between ropes, go right, then go left. You should be in a room where you go down stairs, and giant eyeballs are speeding toward you. Kill an eyeball while it's on the middle step. Once done, a hole will open up. Climb down it for power-ups.
