Castlevania Adventure Game by Konami Reviewed by Adrock gbcam@hotmail.com Size: 512 Kilobits Save: None Released: 1991 Works with: Any Game Boy **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: A Game Boy oldie. Let's have a look. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: If you have played Castlevania 1 or 3, you know what this is like. A game with a whip. So whip it! Heh heh. It is fun, I don't know about replay value, but if you like the Castlevania series, you'll like this too. Liked: A real fun platformer, with a whip. Hated: Replay Value? No game intro. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: Enemies and pitfalls look OK, for a first-gen game. All in all there is a pretty good layout of the power bar and score. Jumping looks more like hopping. Liked: A good looking game. I'd say one of Game Boy's first eye poppers. Hated: More work on the character animation, jumping and whipping in particular. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Pretty cool music that can be freaky sometimes. Sound FX that are a cut above the rest. Pretty good job, Konami! Liked: Cool music and Sound FX! Hated: Well, the title screen is silent. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Jumping feels really awkward. Enemies sometimes attack you in ways seemingly impossible to avoid. Liked: Good all around control. Hated: Jumping. **************************************************************************** Improve: This game would make a cool color update, along with Legends. RIYL: Metroid Series, Castlevania Series. **************************************************************************** Final Words: One of the gems of the first-gen titles. Pick this up if you can find it for cheap. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: **** Graphics: **** Sound/Music: **** Play Control/Game Design: **** Personal Opinion: **** Total: 20/25 Final Score: %80 **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: Extra Life In the first level, do not whip the first ten candles. When you come the 11th candle, whip it to reveal a 1-Up. Secret Room in Stage 1 In the very first stage of this game, there is a hidden room. In the first stage, you must climb ropes to get through the level. The second to last rope, on the right-hand side of the screen, leads to a platform with a tree stump and 2 graves with crosses visible. If you climb up this rope above where it appears to end at a brick wall, you will climb into a hidden room with four power-ups. Secret Room in Stage 2 In the second part of the stage, where you have to choose between ropes, go right, then go left. You should be in a room where you go down stairs, and giant eyeballs are speeding toward you. Kill an eyeball while it's on the middle step. Once done, a hole will open up. Climb down it for power-ups.
