Donkey Kong 94 Game by Nintendo Reviewed by Adrock gbcam@hotmail.com Size: 4 MB Save: Battery, 3 slots Released: 1994 Works with: Any Game Boy **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: I bought this game because it was the first one to use Super Game Boy's palettes. But how does it play? **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: You play the original Donkey Kong, but with a lot more puzzle elements, moves, and enemies. I loved the Donkey Kong series, I played DK Classics a lot when I was a kid. So when I got DK on Game Boy, I expected something similar. But it wasn't. I didn't find the puzzle elements too appealing. I mean, what are you supposed to do when you beat all the levels? Beating my times sounds boring. I wish I could play the classic edition over and over again. Now that would be cool. Liked: Hey, it's still Donkey Kong. For what it is as a game, it is good, and I'm sure many, many people probably love this game. Hated: I guess I'm Cranky Kong for wanting things to be retro again. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: A beautiful game. It shows off the Super Game Boy's true colors (no pun intended). Even on the Game Boy it looks just as good. Love the classic arcade frame on SGB. Liked: Cool frame and fasciniating palette. Hated: No big flaws here. If only CGB didn't ignore Super Game Boy. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: When you plug DK into a Super Game Boy, Paulina will say "HELP! HELP!" Instead of "SQUEAK! SQUEAK!". I thought that was pretty cool. I also liked that they kept that little beginning number that starts the stage out. Liked: Help! Help! Hated: Squeak! Squeak! (j/k) **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Hold down and press A to do a backflip. Press B to throw up your hammer so you can take it up to higher grounds. These new moves add cool new originality to the game. Liked: Cool moves. Hated: Falling. It happens a lot. **************************************************************************** Improve: Make one with a "classic" option. RIYL: Retro arcade games and puzzle games like Lolo and Milon. **************************************************************************** Final Words: If anyone is mad at me, sorry... I'm only being myself. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ** Graphics: ***** Sound/Music: **** Play Control/Game Design: *** Personal Opinion: *** Total: 17 out of 25 Final Score: %68 **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None
