Donkey Kong Land 2 Game by Rare Reviewed by Myau84 Myau84@aol.com Size: 4MB Save: Battery, 3 Slots Released: 1996 Works with: All Game Boys Miscellaneous Features: Banana Yellow Cart Opening Snide Remarks: I've always loved the Donkey Kong Country games on SNES. I've never played the Game Boy ones, so I bought one. I've changed around the review template a little: I think music & sound and gameplay & control should be in the same category. I also think that gameplayshould be worth more than the other categories, and replay value plays a big role in a game. Gameplay: This game plays exactly like its SNES predecesors, which is good. The gameplay is simple. You just run, jump, attack, etc. The levels are big and have many secrets inside of them. There are lots of moves and enemies to the game, and it's very fun. Control is very responsive. Some timing is required, especially playing the bosses and jumping. I wish the save progress was improved though. You have to get to the Kong Kolleges and pay a toll to save. I don't mind the toll, but it can get annoying when you don't save and have to play the levels over and over again. Graphics: Everything in DKL 2 is either too bright or too dark. You cans till tell things apart, but sometimes it gets really annoying. Thecharacters are dark for the most part, and the backgrounds are either bright or dark. Having a black treasure chest in front of a black background makes it hard to see, so you may leave some things behind. There is a bit of blur, but no big deal. On the bright side though (no pun intended) the characters are very detailed. The game is fluid and the bosses look great. Audio: The music in DKL 2 is very fun and will keep you occupied. It's not memorable, but it's nice to listen to. None of the tunes really annoyed me, I kind of liked them all. The sound effects are good too, nothing wrong with them. Replay Value: The game has a lot of replay value. Once you finish a level, you probably aren't "finished" with it. There are secret coins and bonus levels that you probably didn't find your first time around, so you'll always want to go back to the levels you've beaten. The game has a ton of levels, so it'll keep you busy for a while. However, this may get a little repetitive to some players, but not to me :) Final Analysis: Any fan of the SNES series of Donkey Kong Country will love this game. This is a great platformer and should not be passed up. I think every Game Boy owner needs to at least try this game out, because it is one of the best. Overall Gameplay: 10 Graphics: 7 Audio: 8 Replay Value: 9 Final Score: 9.5 Editor's note: Myau84 seems to love making the scores to these games not compliant to the score scale provided by Dmg Ice. There are two templates. They are the standard; and they should be used. He's just lucky his review is pretty nice. Otherwise; I would not have posted it. He should comply with the HARD template. It's quickly becoming standard and it compiles the right categories together. Besides, the 5 star per section rating isn't that hard. It makes the over-all scores comply perfectly with the Score Tally Board. Aauugh! How hard can it be to just follow a template! Anyways, I'm guessing that this score is most likely a 95% in our normal score tally percentages.
