Ducktales 2 Game by Capcom Reviewed by The Avardancer Size: 2 Megabits Save: none Released: 1993 Works with: Any version of Gameboy Opening Snide Remarks: A sequel to the hit game by Capcom. Hmm. This one looks to be larger than the original. I hope it's fun. Capcom did a pretty good job with the Ducktales liscense last time. So this one has a bit of a reputation to live up to... Gameplay: The gameplay follows up on the formula of the first game. The plot is fairly cheesy. Scrooge's nephews, Huey Dewey, and Louie; find a map that is supposed to lead to the (Trumpet Fanfare) The Lost Treasure of McDuck! Capcom has given more of the same type of Gameplay. (The game is exploration based; and your attacks are fairly limited.) But they have thrown in the use of Items, hidden treasures, more moves, and interaction with objects into the fray. The result? Not only does this game play BETTER than the first game; it also introduces more innovations. The bosses are not a straight: "Jump on thier head three times" deal. Now you have to figure out how to beat them. The game also features rpg aspects in the "buying stuff" addition. You can also power-up your weapons. The game is good fun. But you need a little time to beat it; as there is NO save or password option. :( There's lots of stuff to do and the levels are pretty big as well. :) There's an over-emphasis on "reaction" platforming. (Sections of the game where you must complete rapid jumps from one point to the other really quickly to avoid falling or dying. Sections where you just kinda "dash" through.) The game offers NO continues either. It may be a bit too difficult for ther age group that it seems to be aimed at. If you break all the chests in an area; you get a piece of the map... Graphics: Graphics are very improved over the last game. More animation, and detail prevail in the levels. Each level has a distinct feel. The game looks pretty cool on any version of Gameboy. The enemies are well designed and the bosses are fairly cool too. The graphics are clear and easy to see. there is a little bit of slowdown though in some places. The rain in one of the levels is cool. Sound: Sound got carried over from the last game; but at least it is pretty clear and appropriate. Although that "Pogo Jump" noise can get tedious... Music: The Ducktales theme is here and the rest of the music made for this game is appropriate for the theme of the levels. It isn't annoying and some of the music is quite long. It's clear and well done. Play Control: The Play Control is good and responsive; but it may take an average gameplayer a little time to figure out that they can't just jump on an enemy... Final Analysis: This is a fantastic platform game that has one big flaw. NO save or password feature. :( Oh, well. It's quite fun and worth purchase. It has a playful theme and is a good choice for those who want something nice and fun.
