Face Ball 2000 Game by Bullet Proof Software Reviewed by The Avardancer Size: 2 megabits Save: none Released: 1992 Works with: Any version of Game Boy Color. **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: This is "Face Ball 2000". It's not a sports game. The idea of the game is that in the future, people visit Virtual Reality ports as a hobby. Face Ball 2000 is their most popular game. The idea of this game is to move around the "Cyberscape" collecting tags or solving mazes. Sounds kinda dumb; don't it. Well, I'll just see...... **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: This is where Face Ball 2000 stands out from EVERYTHING else on Game Boy. The game is a "Wolfenstein 3-D" type game. Okay.. that may not ring any bells for the readers. Think "Doom". STILL don't get it? Umm. It's like a primitive Half-Life with evil smiling faces instead of festering mutants. In other words: It's a first person shooter. The game has two play modes for single play. "Cyberscape" and "Arena". The "Cyberscape" is a level run. There are 70 levels; and you need to find the exit in them. It's fun; but I consider it to be kind of dull after a while. "Arena" is VERY cool. There's a lot of different areas to fight the Computer opponents and you can decide how many opponents and what types of opponents you face. It's a first to ten tags run and it's VERY cool. The game also features VS play for up to 16 players. (With the right adaptors and cords.) Game play is brisk and a bit dizzying at times. :) The game has enough variety to make you want to play it again and again. A most excellent experience that shows off the power of a normal Game Boy soooo well. Oh, the levels are nice and an auto-map is provided. Liked: A most excellent game with nice gameplay options. Hated: Can make you sick with it's fairly dizzying gameplay. Blurs a bit much on a normal Game Boy. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: It's 3-D! Ooh. Aah. That's how it all starts; then there's running, and screaming. not to mention a lot of shooting, dodging, hunting, and getting lost for short periods of time. (Until you press the select button to bring up the map.) Convincingly 3-D; it creates believable, polygon worlds. Yup. Polygons. Similar to Star Fox on the SNES; the polygons are not textured. Too bad. The graphics are nice, there's a little draw-in and pop-up; but that's understandable and not annoying. It looks like nothing you have ever seen before on Game Boy. Umm. There's a little slow-down in some levels; but the Arena moves at break-neck speed! Even in multi-player! You can also choose what your Smiley face looks like. Cool. There's one that looks like the ghost from Pac-Man!!! Liked: The graphics, polygons, and other mind-warping effects.. that I didn't know were possible on Game Boy. This silenced Game Gear owners the world over and raises a bar not touched for well... I haven't seen anyone try and knock that standard. Hated: Pop-up? Draw-in? I really don't care about those; the game rules; but some very picky people may not like the pop-up... **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Industrial techno fusion with apocolyptic overtones coupled with pop and grunge styling in a bass heavy composition. Umm. It was not made by Trent Reznor and it rules! The music is fast paced, varied, and it rocks on like no one's business! The sound effects are appropriate and very clear and crisp! Liked: The music and the sound. They all kick it back! Hated: Umm..... the "losing" song. Man, I had 8 Bouncers in the Feeding Time Arena. Dang. That was tough... I finally won it though. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: It moves a bit like "Hover" for Windows. It's very cool. The game design plays like it was made on a bet. This game is a winner and is sadly rare to find; but it's cool. The game is a bit disturbing. I mean it, all those smiling faces... it's not sane. It's not sane and that is why it's sooooo good. Liked: Most high play control and game design. It's a deep kick to other Game Boy developers. It rules us all, my friends. Hated: Umm.... This section isn't here right now, leave a message after the beep. **************************************************************************** Improve: Umm. Color, a little less pop-up, and some more music! RIYL: First Person Shooters, impressing your friends, shooting stuff. **************************************************************************** Final Words: Hey kids, do you like violence? Wanna see me stick nine inch nails through my eyelids? Oh, never mind; this game is a non-violent shooter, kinda like "Noah's Ark 3-D" for the SNES, or those Point Blank games. Some harmless shooting and excellent multi-player hunting and killing... I mean.. "tagging". A must have game that should be bought on sight. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: ***** Sound/Music: ***** Play Control/Game Design: ***** Personal Opinion: ***** Total: 25 out of 25 Final Score: 100% **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None, baby!
