Final Fantasy Legend 2 Game by Squaresoft Review by The Avardancer Size: 2 Megabits Save: Battery, three slots Released: 1991 Works with: Any Gameboy Opening Snide Remarks: Another Final Fantasy game. This one seems to have a really generic plot. The plot is "Find your father and beat some enemy bent on becoming a god. Wow. That's original. Gameplay: As a matter of fact the plot IS original. The plot mentioned above is in the instruction manual, and the back of the box; but that plot ends about an hour into the game; and deviates into a grand epic plot with MANY twists, turns, and mysteries. I love the storyline; and it is shown in a beautiful way. The game is a little more on the linear side than the first game; but all the gameplay engine problems of the first are refined and made almost perfect. Your characters don't die and become lost forever. (Thank goodness.) Think of the engine here as Final Fantasy PERFECT. The game isn't easy; or devilishly tough. It's a fun epic quest that outshines the others. The class system is complex, and is handled quite well. Now, you can have robots in your party! Cool. Each of the different classes (Human, Monster, Robot, and Mutant) is used differently. Humans gain levels and HP through fighting. Robots need expensive armour to raise thier levels, Mutants work the same way as humans; but need a lot of protection, and monsters eat other monsters to up-grade. Wow. That's cool. Now, if this game had a Job system for the Humans; it would be better than Link's Awakening. (Nah..) Well, the gameplay exists as a text based RPG; but the main focus of the game is in the story and in building up your characters. Graphics: Nice, complex, varied. Dare I say, magical. Like a 1st (or 2nd) generation SNES game. Look at the crisp and clear graphics and marvel at the power of Gameboy! Sound: Like the first, weapons have distinct sounds; BUT this time around, the sounds are clearer and more distinct. Some even sound painful!! ; ) Music: The music is to die for!! This is some of the best music in an a Gameboy game. I could spend an hour just flipping through the selections on the jukebox. (There's more than two; scroll down.) "Burning Blood" is the song of the year!! I also like "Wandering Shadow", and those epic songs stay with you as you journey! Yes! The music just rocks!! It's cd-worthy. Play Control: Menu's are easier to navigate and that's what counts. The play control is flawless and there's not much that you can say about it. Final Analysis: Want an RPG? Like Final Fantasy? Get this game! It's great. This game will keep you enrapt for hours of Gameplay. And DON'T use any FAQs or Walk-throughs for this one. It's best if you DON'T know what is waiting for you. I like the fact that the plot makes you think one thing; when it's really another. Or the fact that your enemy may be your friend and your friend your enemy. Oh yeah. This one has three save spots! (Thank you, Square!) See this game on the shelf? Scoop it up quick. It's so good it's grand. I only have one qualm with this one. The text transalation is a little ditsy in spots; but the transalation isn't as bad as FF7, FF2 (FF4), or Final Fantasy Tactics. The game is a great game to add to your collection. The game looks good on any version of Gameboy. The game however does suffer from a slight lack of any replay value. :( Score Gameplay: ***** (5 out of 5) Graphics: ***** (5 out of 5) Sound: ***** (5 out of 5) Music: ***** (5 out of 5) Play Control: ***** (5 out of 5) Total: (25 X 4= 100) Final Score: 100% Currently Known Codes: Sound Test To access the sound test hold Select + B + and Start on the Title Screen.
