Final Fantasy Legend 3 Game by Square Reviewed by The Avardancer Size: 4 Megabits Save: Battery, 3 slots Released: 1993 Works with: Any version of Gameboy Opening Snide Remarks: Hmm. This is the third part of the Gameboy Final Fantasy Legend series. The series is known as "Saga" in Japan. Each of the games is drastically different from the last. With each subsequent title bearing a completely new game engine. Well, the idea behind this one is "Time travel". Hmm. It might be fun. Gameplay: This plays much like the normal Final Fantasy series. But with an improved engine. The engine includes changing and mutation. For example, you just killed some creature and you found its "meat" or its "Parts". You can then choose to eat the meat or install the parts. If it's a robot; you get parts and you can install them to become a cyborg or a robot. Eat meat to become a beast or monster. Use the "Flushex" to return to your original state. Unlike the other games; you don't have to worry about your weapons breaking. :) It's fairly linear. The plot is complex enough to hold your interest; but it isn't that dramatic and isn't really "replayable". But it's fun. You can jump in this game; which is good. And the plot involves the use of many vehicles to get around the rather large overworld. Graphics: Creatures are hand drawn and the graphics are fairly standard for this series; which means that they work well and are among the better graphics on the Gameboy. Sound: Square finally decided to stop using the Gameboy's sound cache. This game sounds clear and it doesn't sound "generic". Music: The music is fitting; but it doesn\t stick in the mind of the gamer. You won't be turned away by the music. It's a lot like Final Fantasy 7 in the music department. The music is just "there" and it isn't really an addition to the game. It's just "there". Play Control: Being a menu based game; there's absolutely no problems with the play control. Final Analysis: If you are an RPG fan and you have lots of time to kill... by all means, get this game! It's a very good RPG. And you won't feel like you're wasting your money. It's a good game and you should play it. Though, if I were given a choice; I would choose Final Fantasy Adventure, or Final Fantasy Legend 2 over this one.
