Final Fantasy Legend Game by Squaresoft Review by The Avardancer Size: 512 kilobits Save: Battery, 1 slot Released: 1989 Works with: Any version of Gameboy Opening Snide Remarks: The most celluloid liscense in Video Games gets a Gameboy series. Let me get a little of a rant in here. Final Fantasy is one of the most undeserving game series; that and the Tomb Raider series. We all know that most of the games in the series are horrid; but we love them and buy everyone in the series anyways. Take one look at all the hype surrounding the pretty (And shallow) Final Fantasy 7 and you must know that this series is plain filler. There are some bright spots in the series; but they can be counted on ONE hand. This game and all the rest of the Final Fantasy Legend games are actually part of the Saga series; NOT the Final Fantasy series. Although, I can be a bit harsh on the Final Fantasy series at times; the series has a gleaming reputation despite its obvious flaws. Gameplay: It may say Final Fantasy; but (Thank God!) it doesn't play like Final Fantasy. It plays more like a traditional RPG. Your characters can die and they won't come back. It uses a battle system similar to Dragon Warrior/Earthbound. The class system is similar to Dungeons And Dragons. And the character management is similar to Fire Emblem. The game's plot is really stupid; but it really doesn't matter. The best part of this game comes from managing your party. I wish that I could Game Link with someone and fight them; but this game doesn't offer that. Oh, well. It would've been cool. It's tough; which is something most RPGs aren't. Graphics: The graphics are nice; and remind me of the first Final Fantasy. The enemies graphics look hand-drawn. (And copied over and over again.) The places are okay. The bosses are okay. The graphics are nice; but uninspired. Sound: Each weapon has a distinct sound. That's nice; but other than that? Music: The music is deep; beautiful; and inspired. It's some of the best music on Gameboy. It's great stuff. Play Control: Menu Based battles are not the most demanding things in the world. You can play this game with one hand. The menu commands are easy to select. No problem here. Final Analysis: Finally! A Final Fantasy game that plays like an RPG! The plot stinks; but the difficulty and complexity of the game is great. Man, if only the plot were cooler. Oh, well. If you want a long RPG and love the base essence of an RPG. (And if you don't care about the plot.) Then you NEED this RPG. Don't buy it if the only RPG you've ever played is FF7. You'll get your butt whooped by the first few creatures. The Class System gives the game alot of Replay value. I really hated the fact that there's only ONE save file. :( Score Gameplay: ***** (5 out of 5) Graphics: **** (4 out of 5) Sound: *** (3 out of 5) Music: ***** (5 out of 5) Play Control: **** (4 out of 5) Total: (21 X 4 = 84) Final Score: 84% Currently Known Codes: Sound Test On the title screen press DOWN, START, and B at the same time to access the SOUND TEST!!
