Game Boy Camera Game by Nintendo Reviewed by Adrock gbcam@hotmail.com Size: 8 MB Save: Battery Released: 1998 Works with: All Game Boy System Opening Snide Remarks: A digital camera on Game Boy. Wow, it can save 30 pictures, there's millions of things to do, it must be worth my money. But what's this? I can trade pictures my friends? I can print them out and stick them anywhere? Wow! It must be worth my money, man! Well... we might find it's worth a lot more than the value on it's tag. Gameplay: There are lots of things to do. (No, really?) Let's see, you have 3 games, a DJ mode, Panorama, Trick Frames, Montage, Time Lapse, Self Timer, Stamps, Paint, Link-up trades to others with the camera, print-outs (with the Game Boy Printer), negative and mixed palettes for taking pictures, animation, secret pictures to unveil, hot-spot editors to make point and click presentations with your pictures, options to split pictures and switch between other pictures, picture fusion, dithering, slide shows, records for everything you do (plus user name, birthday and hi score), and even an option to put your face in the games. Is that enough for MSRP (50$)? Well, if these things are limited to creativity, Nintendo must think you might still get bored. I think you will be playing this for a while. Graphics: Hmm, I guess this would go to picture quality and layout of the menus. The quality of the pictures is very good, better than you would expect. The only thing you need to watch out for is your lighting, the battery (picture quality may dull on a low battery), and your camera is good and still on it's subject. There is no speed set for your shutter, so you'll have to manage. As for the layout, it is... eh, wacky. You will see a dancing Mario at the title screen, lots of stamps with Nintendo characters, and cartoonish graphics on the menus. You might expect a "breakthrough" layout like something from a Philips-Magnavox commercial, but hey, this is Nintendo. Trust me, you'll get used to it. While we're on the topic of layout, you may disagree with the GB Cam's menu systems... Well, it takes time, don't let it discourage you. Sound: N/A Music: The music, amazingly, is good. It's fun and has a fast tempo. If you listen to it, it's a quick little number, playing over and over again. And it's still dynamic. But, is it annoying? Well, I'll leave it up to you. I didn't find any numbers that were too annoying, but you might end up making one on your own in DJ mode. ( ...:-)... ) Play Control: A button is to confirm, B button is to cancel. Simple enough, huh? Yeah. It is. It's so simple; forwards, or back? It depends where you want to go. Heh heh! Hey, think, they could of made it a lot harder. Final Analysis: I like how they made it so fun. If I was Gumpei Yokoi, I would be really proud of Nintendo's EAD. It's really worth the money on the tag. If you have ever wanted a digital camera, this one is a good one to get, it's cheap, and it's got the features. But, if you want computer compatability... well, there are the other digital cameras. But, you can still scan your prints, or, with some special link-ups and a GB Printer Emulator, you can transfer to your PC. And that's all I'm saying here. You can find more at Funtography Hut about it. Final Score: 99% Currently Known Codes: Requirements for B Album Pictures: b17: Shoot 60 Pics b18: Delete 60 Pics b19: Transfer 15 Pics b20: Receive 5 Pics from Males b21: Receive 5 Pics from Females b22: Print 30 Pics b23: Score 3,000 Points in Space Fever II b24: Score 5,000 Points in Space Fever II b25: Score 7,000 Points in Space Fever II b26: Score 500 Points in Ball b27: Score 700 Points in Ball b28: Score 1,000 Points in Ball b29: Finish Run! Run! Run! in 17 Seconds b30: Finish Run! Run! Run! in 16 Seconds Run! Run! Run! : To get Run! Run! Run! you must play Space Fever II and get a high score of 2,000 points. Some people find Space Fever II hard to play, but if you stay in the middle of your screen and stay still, pressing A as fast as you can, you should be able to play to at least 2,000. Keep practicing. To play Run! Run! Run! Press A and B as fast as you can. Press Up to jump over hurdles. The mole will be your toughest opponent. If you raise the flag after beating the game in First Place, fireworks will go off. Other Tricks: * To flip a stamp, hold A for about two seconds then release. * If you have the Printer, hold feed while turning it on for a test print. It is Mario saying "hello". * To unlock the credits get 22 seconds in Run! Run! Run! * To print out sheet music for your DJ stuff, go to the Sound I screen, push and hold Start then press A. * Holding Up and Down at the Title Screen will make Mario dance faster or slower. This trick also works for Slide Show and the Mouth in "View".
