Gameboy Game Shark System by Interact Reviewed by The Avardancer Released: 1998 Height: 2 and a half inches. Width: Same as average Gameboy Game Pak Depth: 6/10ths of an inch at the thickest point. Opening Snide Remarks: Well, this is a CHEAT device! It is not liscensed by Nintendo nor endorsed by Nintendo in anyway. The device works on Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Color (Old style games only. Gameboy Color games that are used on a Gameboy color will block it out. If you want to use it on a Gameboy Color game; place the Game Shark and the Gameboy Game cartridge in an older style Gameboy device. In other words, you can only cheat in GBC games in black and white.) The accesory works on Super Gameboy; which Game Genie could not. The system also can let you cheat older Gameboy games (Grey Paks.) on a Gameboy Color. (The Black cartridges won't work on a Gameboy Color. The systems processor blocks it; because it can not find a pallete file.) Well, the Game Shark has many interesting features as well. It is THE only current Gameshark device to use a "Cheat Finder" device for making your own cheats. The system also has a bunch of preloaded game cheats. Impressions: The only real reason for owning this is justified by ONE game. "Pokémon". Yes, this Game Shark can unlock Mew. Here is the codes for your favorite Pokémon! These codes allow you to fight these specific Pokémon in random battles in the grassy areas of the game. (So you can catch them.) I do not suggest getting into a Trainer fight though. The game may freeze. The codes below have been tested to work; but be careful. Some codes may actually "screw" up your Games saved data. MEW = 0115D8CF MEWTWO = 0183D8CF BULBASAUR = 0199D8CF CHARMANDER = 01B0D8CF SQUIRTLE = 01B1D8CF EEVEE = 0166D8CF PIKACHU = 0154D8CF Okay, I'm not going to list all 151 Pokémon here; but I have given what I figure to be the most "Useful" Pokémon codes. Only enter one of these codes at a time. Liked: The gadget has preloaded codes; up to 25 codes can be inputed at one time. (!!) The Game Trainer and View Cheats code can be used to "discover" new cheats, the device is compatabile with loads of games and some of the codes are quite nice. Although many of them consist of stupid codes like "Infinite Lives", "Infinite Health", etc. Preloded codes for 70+ games. It helps you find MEW. Hated: The basic concept of the Game Shark is cheating. Cheating is NO way to win a game. The device itsself is poorly constructed and looks fairly fragile upon closer inspection. The buttons on the top are poorly made and the pre-loaded codes are one or two per game. Some codes can RUIN your game's saved data. The only answer? The "MEMORY ERASE" option. What does it do? It allows you the pleasure of kissing your saved game files good bye. Think about it. A rouge code for Wario Land 2; means you MUST play the game through to completion again or face a game that either freezes, won't let you have certain items, randomly glitch, etc. And those can be permanent in your saved data. (Unless you use the MEMORY ERASE.) That just SUCKS! The games listed in the PRELOADED CODES are mostly imports or European names for games. This can be confusing to the kid who doesn't know which game "Contra Spirits" is. On top of that; there are SPELLING ERRORS in the list. What the Hell? This is a poorly made device. It flat out sucks. If you live near me; I will trade a MEW to you; so you do not have to buy this lame device. The programming part of the device is fairly cool; but you risk completely RUINING your games. Final Words: The Game Shark is a two-edged weapon. It's good at what it does. It cheats. It's dishonest. It's underhanded. and it works. I can only hope that the device has something more to it besides MEW. MEW is worth the $30. BUT, you may want to keep that recipt. Score: 37%
