Kirby's Dream Land 2 Game by Nintendo/Hal Laboratory Reviewed by The Avardancer Size: 4 Megabits Save: Battery, 3 slots Released: 1995 Works with: Any version of Gameboy Opening Snide Remarks: The anticipated sequel to Kirby's Dreamland is here! It's bigger, bolder, and let us see if it's better. Kirby must find the Rainbow Drops and stop Dark Matter Gameplay section: The game plays like the first one; but you have a ton of more things to do. There's THREE Animal Helpers, special powers, and two endings; PLUS bonus games, bosses, and hidden modes. Beat the game with 100 percent and you open up a bonus challenge. and a boss challenge. Not to mention a Sound Test! There's a ton of great stuff to do; and it's really fun. The game has great Replay value; it gets progressively harder and there's lots of cool stuff to do. The variety of gameplay is aided by the fact that there are so many different powers that Kirby can use. And when those powers are combined with an animal friend, they become different powers. Some of the powers affect the back ground and/or the course of the level. For example: Kine, the fish, and the electric power make an excellent combination; because this combination can light up dark areas. Graphics: Kirby is easy to see; and there are little cut-scenes. The Super Gameboy Enchancements are REALLY cool. There are FULL COLOR anime style scenes at the end. It's GOOD stuff. It looks fairly good on a Gameboy Color too. Although it is not programmed with any special enchancements for Gameboy Color, the default GBC pallette is very good. The different powers look great as well. Some of them are quite impressive. The little cut-scenes are of two varieties. There are cut-scenes that use the games graphic engine and are usually funny. And there are anime style cut scenes that look fantastic. (Those cut-scenes are also full color on Super Gameboy.) The bosses are varied and very cool looking. I like Kracko the evil cloud. He's so cool and his latest form in this game "morphs" out of the floor of the screen. :) Sound: LOTS of varied sounds and it's clear to boot. There are tons of sound effects, some of them are very excellent and original. The sounds are also appropriate for the on-screen actions. Music: Happy music, and some music that sounds like it was stolen from some Manga/Anime show. That's cool. The music actually does not get on your nerves; well it doesn't get on my nerves. :) The sound test option is great. The music is long and very well done. Play Control: The Play Control is tight and easy to use. It's great! But, the same problem still plagues it. You may find yourself accidently flying for a little while until you get used to not pushing UP when you jump. Some players have already developed that habit of pushing UP when they jump from games like Super Mario Land 2. That habit will make the control a bit difficult for the first two or three levels. Once you get used to it... you will be fine. Final Analysis: This is a great game and a must for Platform game fans. I would suggest this game to anyone. Ignore the cutesy nature of it; and you'll be fine. It's great!! The game features many excellent levels of side scrolling action, complete with great bosses and cool powers.
