Killer Instinct Game by Nintendo Reviewed by Adrock gbcam@hotmail.com Size: 4 MB Save: None Released: 1995 Works with: Any Game Boy **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: This game, borrowed from my friend, became my new best friend on my trip to St. Louis. It's got great skills, it's a choice fighter for your GameBoy, go get it, read this review, right now, play it, play it again, UH! **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: I loved the gameplay on this. It's got lasting appeal. The Super Game Boy usage is awful nice. If you played the Super NES version heavily, like I still do, you'll be glad to know that the Game Boy still has a home for you. Orchid's foot thing combo is in there, Jago's uppercut combo is in there, too. If you think there aren't much combos to be had with 2 buttons, think again. Killer Instinct shows off the talent of the Game Boy that many have failed to drain. You want varied play? You want an action packed button masher? Killer Instinct, with the Game Boy, defines the term "portable arcade". I found it a pak that will shine amongst many paks in your collection. Liked: Unstoppable. Keeps it going, with arcade action and a fighting experience, that other GB games can't meet, much less beat. It has kept much of it's SNES engine. Hated: Minor flaws; Cinder and Riptor. Gone. But who used those guys, anyways? **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: These ACM graphics kick all arse. No mercy! They look awesome. Better than MK (definetely.), better than Toshinden, better than all three DKL's, plus no blur. Tiggity Iggity Tight. Character animation is great. The arenas are intact as well. They all look great. Liked: Awesome graphics. I underestimated Game Boy. Hated: Hey, I don't see anything wrong with this game's graphics. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Gut pumping music and sound FX. Suprisingly on target for a GB, you will have a lot of fun listening to your KI character's favorite songs. Liked: Great stuff. Hated: Some of the sound effects for winning and stuff sound weird and I didn't recognize them. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: May find it real hard to perform some moves, but if you were an expert, there should be no problem. Two buttons can still put the smack down on your enemies. Never underestimate the power of Game Boy. Liked: Great overall control of the characters and moves Hated: Some moves have tightened up a little. **************************************************************************** Improve: Killer Instinct Gold on GBC? Heck yeah! KI3 on GBC? Even better! RIYL: Fighting games of any kind, Tekken, the arcade versions of KI, and the SNES version. **************************************************************************** Final Words: A great fighter. Rare actually put a lot of work into this pak, and it shows. With no sign of slowdown and awesome arcade action, this pak belongs in every teenager's pocket. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: ***** Sound/Music: ***** Play Control/Game Design: **** Personal Opinion: ***** Total: 24 out of 25 Final Score: %96 **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: Random Select: At the character select screen, press UP and START at the same time. Play as EYEDOL: (This doesn't mean you'll win though..) At the screen where they show the fighters close-up pictures before a fight; hold RIGHT and then press SELECT, START, B, and A. (Just hold down RIGHT; don't hold down the other buttons. Or you'll reset the game.)
