Killer Instinct Game by Nintendo/Rare Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Size: 4 megabits Save: None Released: 1995 Works with: all Gameboy versions **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: I must admit that I have never played Killer Instinct before this game. I only hope that this a half-way decent fighting game. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: KI is a fairly standard tournament fighter. You must fight your way up the tournament ladder to meet your final destiny, the boss Eyedol. The fights are best 2 out of 3 rounds.* Liked: Nothing particularly. Hated: Too formulaic. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: KI contains some of the best graphics that you have ever seen on the Game Boy. Liked: Beautiful graphics. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: KI has some pretty good music with some average sound fx. Liked: The music. Hated: Standard sound fx. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: KI has some problems in both of these areas. The controls are sluggish and rather lackluster. The game design is very uninspired. Liked: Nothing really. Hated: Poor controls. **************************************************************************** Improve: The controls, the controls, and the controls. RIYL: Virtua Fighter, Street Fighter 2, and Mortal Kombat. **************************************************************************** Final Words: If you are not sick to death of fighting games, or if you loved any other version of Killer Instinct then this is a possible purchase. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: *** Graphics: ***** Sound/Music: *** Play Control/Game Design: * Personal Opinion: ** Total: 14 out of 25 Final Score: 56 % **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: Random Select: At the character select screen, press UP and START at the same time. Play as EYEDOL: (This doesn't mean you'll win though..) At the screen where they show the fighters close-up pictures before a fight; hold RIGHT and then press SELECT, START, B, and A. (Just hold down RIGHT; don't hold down the other buttons. Or you'll reset the game.) * Editor's Note: Matches in Killer Insinct are NOT divided into to normal tabulated matches. The characters fight until one of them faints. Then the fainted one gets up again with another life bar. If that life bar is beaten down to nothing. The opponent enters "Danger Mode". Where fatalities or Humilations can take place. In Danger Mode it is possible to get a "Third Wind" in this game. That would extend matches well beyond a normal two out of three game. Making it almost a five out of six match.
