The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX Game by Nintendo Reviewed by Myau84 Myau84@aol.com Size: 8 MB Save: Battery, 3 Slots Released: 1998 Works with: All Gameboys Opening Snide Remarks: I just bought a Game Boy Pocket a few weeks ago and this was my first game. I couldn't find the original version anywhere, so I had to go with this one. Unfortunately, I missed some of the new features. However, there are Game Boy Printer capabilities that aren't in the original. Gameplay: What can I say? Link's Awakening is one of the best games I've ever played. The gameplay has no flaws. The game will have you exploring forever. There are so many things you can do, giving it much replay value. The dungeons, puzzles, and bosses are a great challenge. Graphics: The graphics in Zelda DX are great. Each character is detailed and can easily be identified. The backgrounds are detailed as well and have many features to them. Of course the graphics would be better if I had a Game Boy Color.... Sound: The sound effects are pretty good. It has your usual Game Boy tones. Each weapon has its own sound effect. Sometimes you need to depend on the sound in the game. How so? Well, in dungeons you can poke the walls. If it sounds hollow, then you can bomb it. Pretty clever huh? Music: The traditional Zelda music is in this game. It is great and never gets boring. The music changes wherever you go. When you get closer to solving some puzzles, the music draws you in. It gets to an adventurous tone when you're just exploring the island. It is always changing and will keep you playing. Play Control: Control is excellent as well. I like the inventory menu that lets you switch between your items. Control is accurate. No problems here. Final Analysis: You probably know that this game is a must have. Every Game Boy owner has to have it, whether it be the original or DX version. Go buy it now! Overall Gameplay: ***** Graphics: ***** Sound: ***** Music: ***** Play Control: ***** Total: 25 out of 25 Final Score: 100% Currently Known Codes: The screen warp code from the first game DOES NOT work in this game. Chicken pickin': Like Link to the Past before you can harrass chickens and get attacked by a huge flock of them. You can kill chickens with magic powder or the Fire Rod. Change the music: Enter "ZELDA" as your name. (In all capital letters.) Missiles: Get the Bombs and the Bow. Place the Bow in one button; and the Bombs in the other. (Make sure you have at least one arrow and bomb.) Push both buttons at once to throw a missile. Have fun with Marin: If you take Marin to different places like the Trendy Game or a dungeon. She has different things she says and some of the stuff she does is quite funny. You can also ONLY get a few of the pictures when Marin is following you. Steal: Go into the store and grab an item. Walk around the cashier and when he isn't looking at you; run out the door. If you get out; you get to keep the item; but then everyone calls you thief and the guy in the store will kill you if you ever come back in the store. :( One-Hit KO Last Boss: If you have the Boomerang; fling it just right at the final form of the last boss to kill it with one hit. More: Beat the game without dying to see a slightly different "The End" screen. Even more: The seemly invincible sun-like creatures can be beaten with the boomerang. Play the "Ballad of the Windfish" to kill Pols Voices without your arrow or throwing things at them. (Editor's Note: Some aspects of this review have been changed for accuracy. The reviewer said that the game is Gameboy Camera compatible. The game is Gameboy PRINTER compatible. Anyways, the score was tabulated in a numerical outline previously. Since the review gave it a perfect ten in each category.. it was easy to translate the score into the Dmg Ice compliant score tab percentages. Other than those two changes... no other alterations have been made to this review.)
