Mole Mania Game by Nintendo Review by The Avardancer Released: 1997 Size: 4 Megabits Use with: Any version of Gameboy Save: Battery (2 Slots) Opening Snide Remarks: Why did I buy Mole Mania? I was bored, had cash, and wanted a new game. Is that so wrong? Gameplay: No, is it isn't wrong. This game is going to win the award for most overlooked Cult Hit. This game rocks!! It plays a little like the old Lolo games for the NES; except that Muddy (The hero.) has a ton of moves that Lolo doesn't. This game offers a lot of puzzles and it could be classified as a Puzzle-RPG. Why? Because the game has tons of text in it. You read a lot of signs (They teach you how to play and some of them are funny.) and you interact with the characters. This game is what Legend of Zelda would play like if it had a huge emphasis on puzzles. It will hook you! The game has a really cool sense of humour too. This is not a "cutesy" title. This is a really fun game. The only flaw in the gameplay is the fact that as you go through the game; you will notice that the puzzles follow an almost set pattern. (Easy, easy, impossible, easy, impossible, tough, easy, easy, Oh my god!) This game is a real addicting puzzle game and it's full of so many puzzles it'll make your head spin. Don't buy this game if you wimp out easily. This game takes stamina, and brains. Mole Mania also has a two player battle mode that plays really well. (And it's fun too.) Graphics: This game is pretty hilarious sometimes. There's all sorts of campy humour in the game. Those cinema scenes are funny! The enemies are funny. (Sumo Wrestlers should say no to crack.) Colors on the Super Gameboy are great too. The bosses are cool. The sense of humour shines. For example; to beat the first boss. You need to move the tack around the floor so that when he jumps; he'll land on it. (The following animation is funny.) When Muddy beats a puzzle room; he does this little gesture with his paws that looks like one of those Rap artist gestures. (I'm the mole, I'm the mole!) Muddy looks cool in his little shades. He's soooo smooth. The animations when you rescue his kids are funny. (My favorite is the one where he's running to his son and his son runs right past him to stand with the other moles. Then Muddy burys his face in his paws. While his son is exchanging handshakes with his brothers. It's so funny. And just a bit sad. Oh, the one where Muddy spins one of his sons around like a plane and accidently lets go is funny too.) Sound: There's sound and it's clear; but the warning tone when your low on life is annoying. (Trust me; you are going to hear that chime a lot!) Music: The music is good; but it gets annoying as you progress through the puzzles. Just turn the volume down. Play Control: It's perfect and Muddy's moves are easy to do. (The game also teaches you new skills like an RPG when you progress. (Read the signs!) Final Analysis: Want a new game to waste a couple weeks of your life away? Get Mole Mania!! It's a grand Puzzle-RPG that has a high reward factor. It's just too much fun! I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a fun romp and further proof that Gameboy has some of the best games anywhere.
