Milon's Secret Castle Game by Hudson Soft/ Re-released by Electro Brain Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net http://members.tripod.com/reviewscentral Size: 512 Kilobits Save: Password Released: 1993 Works with: All Gameboy versions **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: I never really knew much about this game. I had heard of the NES version, but I've never played it. I found it at Best Buy for $15 so I bought it. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: Milon's Secret Castle is a cross between a platform game and a puzzle game. You jump around on platforms, but if you miss you don't die. The point of the game is to defeat all of the castle's rooms. In certain rooms, you need to find a key and the door to exit. But they're both hidden. You will have to break blocks to find them and many other hidden things. There's also some shops where you can buy power-ups. There are also bosses to defeat. This is a very unusual game, that is awesome. Liked: Unique gameplay. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: Milon's Secret Castle suffers big-time in this area. The graphics look like a first-gen game. The characters are small and squatty, but yet the game runs very slow. It feels like the game takes place in molasses. You will get used to this, but at first you will think that this game is just horrible. I did. Liked: Nothing. Hated: Horrible slowdown. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Milon's Secret Castle has some fairly typical GB sound and music. They're both very retro. Liked: Retro sound. Hated: Retro sound. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Milon's Secret Castle has some very good controls. It's easy to pick up and play. My biggest issue with this game is that you have to be positioned just right in front of a door to enter it. If an enemy is chasing you, and you try to escape through the door, you're probably going to get hurt. Liked: Easy controls. Hated: Too hard to enter a door. **************************************************************************** Improve: Better frame rates, make it easier to enter doors, better graphics. RIYL: Milon's Secret Castle(NES), Mighty Bomb Jack(NES) **************************************************************************** Final Words: Milon's Secret Castle is an awesome game that looks like crap. Forgive the visuals and enjoy a great playing game. I dismissed this game at first, but now I love it. You can probably find it cheap, I got mine for $15. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: ** Sound/Music: *** Play Control/Game Design: **** Personal Opinion: ***** Total: 19 out of 25 Final Score: 76 % **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: (Any secrets?)
