NBA Jam '99 Game by Acclaim Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Size: 8 megabits Save: Password Released: 1999 Works with: all Gameboy versions **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: I've always been a fan of the NBA Jam series. I loved the arcade classic, the SNES version, and NBA Hang Time(N64) even though it's not an official Jam title. After College Slam and NBA Jam Extreme, I thought the Jam series was out of steam, but I do think that a Game Boy Color version would be a cool idea. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: NBA Jam '99 plays just like the others in the Jam series. It's basically 2-on-2 basketball, but on steroids. The gameplay is simplistic but very addictive. The power-ups from NBA Jam:TE are present. There's also a "Juice" mode, which when pumped-up all of the way, makes this game run as fast as the SNES version on it's fastest setting. Liked: Fast gameplay. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: NBA Jam '99 is a great looking Game Boy Color game. The players animate very well and the arenas are nicely drawn. My biggest gripe is that there's really no way to tell your players apart because all of the players are the same size. Liked: Nice graphics. Hated: All of the players look the same. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: NBA Jam '99 has some great music and sound fx. They're both very enjoyable. Liked: Everything. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: NBA Jam '99 has some great controls. It's not as big of a pain as you would think to use the "Start" button for "Turbo". The game design is pretty good but this game is basically just NBA Jam on the Game Boy. Liked: Responsive controls. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Improve: Make some different sized player models. RIYL: NBA Hang Time (N64), NBA Jam, NBA Live '99 (N64) **************************************************************************** Final Words: NBA Jam '99 is a very good game. It's a very well-done port of the arcade and SNES classics. The rosters are not accuarate because they were not updated after the lock-out ended. Overall, this is a great job by Acclaim. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: **** Sound/Music: **** Play Control/Game Design: ***** Personal Opinion: ***** Total: 23 out of 25 Final Score: 92 % **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None
