Pulse Pak Color System by Interact Reviewed by The Avardancer Released: 1998 Height: Almost 3½ inches Width: Almost 3½ inches Depth: ALmost 1 inch. Weight: Less than 3 ounces Battery Life: 2 AAA batteries, about 15 hours of non-stop rumble. Opening Snide Remarks: A rumble pak device for Gameboy? Hmm. Sounds cool. I wonder if it would be a wise purchase. It is a gimmick; but it was only $10. I could not resist. Hmm. If you see it... should you resist it? Well, that is why I am reviewing it! Impressions: The device runs off of the Gameboy's sound output and activates vibration feedback by reading higher or edgier bass sounds and responding to those. The idea is the same as early feed back devices for the SNES and Genesis systems. It vibrates to the noise. Liked: It has a good speaker, a headphone jack, variable feedback sensitivity and it has good battery life. You need to poke around with the volume and the sensitivity switch on some games to make the thing stop rumbling to the music and not the sound; but once you get the hang of it; it works well. The device adds just the right amount of feedback to tell you that it's there and it is not liable to make your Gameboy "jump" out of your hand. The closest thing to it in terms of power would be the Dual Shock controller for the Playstation. It works well on some games. For example; Metroid 2. You can set it so that you only feel the pain when you get hit or blow something really big up. The device has no GUI or technical stuff to it; just put in two AAA's pop it on the bottom of the Gameboy and viola! Very simple. The price is nice and it is worth every penny. It makes some games much better. It actually makes games like Mortal Kombat 4 and Rampage; reasonably fun for a little while. It's a new way to play! Hated: It makes your Gameboy Color longer. You need to mess around with that stupid switch thing to change the sensitivity. It sometimes can get annoying. Although the Gameboy Color still fits in my pocket with the device on; it may not fit in some pockets. (I just like semi-baggy pants with deep pockets.) It does feel like a gimmick; and it's a pocket sized device that vibrates and that could lead to sin. I'm sure of it. It can get annoying in some games and it adds a little weight to the device. Final Words: You see it? Get it. It's a pretty cool device. Nintendo will be implementing force-feedback into future Gameboy Color titles; but why not get this device and play with force-feedback on every Gameboy game? It's best with games where you can turn off the music. Hmm. You haven't lived until you have played "Joust" with force-feedback. This is a nice gadget and it is not very expensive. It's worth more than it's being sold for and you should get one if you see it. Very cool. Tetris DX that you can feel. :) I think it is very cool and you should check it out. :) Some sports games are great with this thing. It adds a little bit more realism to some games. Like Wave Race, Men in Black, Pitfall, Toshinden, Killer Insinct, etc. Good job, Interact. Score: 82%
