Power Quest Game by Sunsoft Reviewed by Adrock gbcam@hotmail.com Size: 8 MG Save: Password, 12 characters Released: 1999 Works with: All Game Boys **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: Dude, I thought these Sunsoft guys were dead (not making anymore games). This game proves that theory wrong. Well, they didn't really make it, it was those people at Japan Supply System or whatever. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: I was impressed. This is some of the best fighting action I have seen on Game Boy. It kind of reminded me of the Street Fighter 2 days. This game feels very reminscent of that game. The action is intense. The action is organized by a kind of RPG thing. You get 1000 credits (money), and your choice of one of the five models. Then you go around the town pickin fights with other models. What is a model? It is a robot kind of thing. You buy parts for your model that let it do certain moves. They are all different looking, and handle different ways. Those are the fighting characters. Then, after you are through with buliding up your character, you can put it in a championship. "Oh, the hell with that." You say. "I just want to fight. Screw that fake RPG crap." That is fine. If you just wanna fight, choose 1P mode. Fight a friend? Cool too. I love it. It's an awesome game. Better, I thought, than KI. The quest thing may seem weird, but this has the ability to satisfy both kinds of player's needs. The one who wants to sit down and play til the end, or the one that just wants a quick fix. Liked: Awesome fighting game for any player. Hated: More depth could be asked of the quest mode. Too much unnecessary talking at the beginning. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The choice of color is awesome. Remiscent of NES kind of stuff. I guess that is what they were going for. I love it. If this is any evidence of what is to come for the NES to GBC thing, bring it on. The framerate of the characters is brisk. Physically unmatched. The moves look anime-awesome. Whoa! Liked: The fighting looks can compete with the arcade. Long live NES! Hated: More arenas in 1P mode. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: The music has an upbeat tempo. It's not annoying at all. Liked: Sound FX are on time. Music is clean cut. Hated: More dramatic music. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Kick, punch, it's all in the mind. The controls are fluid. Take Mortal Kombat and give me the exact opposite, and you have Power Quest. No slow gaps of animation before kicking and punching. The feel is a lot more like the arcade then a Game Boy. If you are looking for an RPG, do not look here, because it is not that. (What do you need an RPG for? You have Pokemon.) But, if you need a fighter, look this way. Liked: Awesome all around. Hated: It's a fighter, not a RPG. **************************************************************************** Improve: Expand the quest mode just a little. Add more elements to the models for trading. RIYL: Fighting, Pokemon. **************************************************************************** Final Words: This is my new favorite fighting game. When I get a GBC, this is the first game I am getting. It is Pokemon meets Street Fighter. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: ***** Sound/Music: ***** Play Control/Game Design: ***** Personal Opinion: ***** Total: 25 Final Score: %100 **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
