Quest for Camelot Game by Titus/Nintendo Reviewed by Adrock gbcam@hotmail.com Size: 8 MG Save: Battery, 1 slot Released: 1998 Works with: CGB Enhanced (not dedicated) **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: Never seen the movie. Played the game cause it looked like a Zelda clone. (And I like Zelda clones.) **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: It's a fun game at first. You play as Kayley, this girl that looks similar to Wendy on South Park. (More-so when playing on a monochrome GB.) Once you get your sword, you go around killing bosses and enemies and crap. Anyone ever play that shareware game "God of Thunder" in the pre-pentium days? That is what this reminded me of. Yawn... the game gets boring and the plot doesn't follow up with story-twists and such, like Zelda 4 does. You gotta go around finding things, and the game is less freelance about levels and exploration. Child-centered themes and Fisher-Price looking characters will bore the likes of some. Liked: Fun at first with a G.O.T. feel. Hated: Too little freedom of plot. Not worth beating more than once. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: "Kayley jumps into her father's arms". Um, yeah. If you don't read that sentence before you see the next scene, you will think bad thoughts. It looks like he's putting his hands in the wrong place... two places to be exact. OK, now that that is taken care of, the game looks pretty good. Looking at it in Nintendo Power, it looked to be a sleeper hit. But, I found out, it's a hit that puts you to sleep. The Game Boy Color Choice is good, but I feel that very soon it will look out of date. It's easy to amaze someone with the first couple of titles for a new system, but usually they are easily matched and overthrown. Just look at Banjo-Kazooie over Mario 64. It is some of the later games of a system that show off the true power. Animation of characters is not done too well. Kayley looks like she just was in a cat fight, the way that she walks around. When you walk into a cave or a door, there is this wavy effect that goes on for about 5 seconds. NOT needed. Just exit, fade, then enter. It's like they are showing it off. Oh looook, kids! We have this special effect, it looks really cool! Want to see it every time you turn around the corner? No. Oh yeah, this game is compatible with the GB Printer. See a scene you like? As long as it's not the first one (Go get a magazine, you pervert), you can print it out by pressing select. Remember, it will be in black and white. Liked: Looks can decieve you into getting this. GB Printer Compatible. Hated: Too many dumb FX and animation is strange at times. Should be rated A-O for sodomy. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Sound FX are muffled. Songs aren't looped as often in the game, but they aren't really memorable. They are just there. Liked: One or two themes that make you tap your thumbs. Hated: Muffled FX and uninspired songs. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: The way you save sucks. You have to pay. Bad hit detection. Liked: Moving with the control pad is smooth. Hated: Bad hit detection with sword. Pay for saving. **************************************************************************** Improve: Take this game back to the drawing board and start anew. RIYL: Final Fantasy Adventure, Legend of Zelda 4: "Link's Awakening" DX, James Bond 007. **************************************************************************** Final Words: Don't get this game. It's not really fun, and it's not Zelda. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ** Graphics: *** Sound/Music: ** Play Control/Game Design: *** Personal Opinion: *** Total: 13 Final Score: %52 **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: Print out the cinema scenes! Connect a Gameboy Printer up to the Gameboy. Turn on this game. When ever a cinema scene shows up. Press SELECT to print it.
