Race Drivin' Game by THQ Reviewed by -=\^/@!+er=- rex84@epix.net Size: 2 megabits Save: No save feature Released: 1992 Works with: Compatible with GameBoy/Color GameBoy Opening Snide Remarks: Race Drivin' for GameBoy?! I loved the Sega Genesis version! Let's see how this plays! Gameplay: Have you ever played the arcade version? The Sega version? Well, the GameBoy version works the same way! This is a fully 3D racer for GameBoy! You go up hills, over ramps, through loops, and into banked turns. The game itself plays kind of slowly, but if you're a fan of the series, you may not mind. The game has four cars, and three tracks. The first track is kind of dull, because it's a speed track. Track 2 is a stunt track, and track 3 is the super stunt track. It's got huge hills, loops, and tunnels! All the tracks run smoothly, except for track number 2, which gets jerky sometimes. Graphics: This is the only polygonal racer for GameBoy. The polygonal models are all pretty blocky, but they look about the same as the arcade version. There is also some noticeable draw-distance, but it doesn't interfere with the gameplay. Sound: Wow. This sound is awful, it makes me sick. The engine sounds awful. When your tires screech on the road, the only sound you get is a high-pitched beep. When you car drives on the grass, it makes the standard "static noise." It's best to turn the sound off. Music: There's music ... but none while you're driving. The tunes *are* good, but the lack of driving music hurts this title. Play Control: The play control is a little unresponsive. The turning is slower than it should be, and sometimes when you press turn, you don't move at all. Other than that, there aren't any problems. Final Analysis: If you're a fan on the Hard Drivin' series, or just want a polygonal racer for GameBoy, then you may wanna pick this up! But beware, this game has its faults.
