Rampage: World Tour By Midway Reviewed by RJ Macks E-mail rog@sbainger.demon.co.uk Save- None Size- 8 Megabits Released- UK-Dec98 Works with all GB's Opening snide remarks- I had this game on the Atari ST and loved it. Then I read the Game boy reviews and thought- oh dear. I wondered in what way they had ruined it. Gameplay- The gameplay consists of running around various cities (which are all vaguely similar - there are no familiar landmarks) as one of three giant monsters: George the ape, Lizzy the lizard or Ralph the wolf. These monsters can punch or kick building, destroy land and air vehicles and also eat the pedestrians by chucking them up in the air and catching them - this is quite cool. Eating people and also getting power ups from inside windows can increase your health/ make you more powerful. Eating bad food makes you sick and also decreases health. The gameplay throughout the game is repetitive if not almost identical. A short variation comes in the form of a side scrolling level where the monster is clutching to a plane to get to a different country. Here you collect points by bashing into other airborne objects which is less exciting than it sounds. Graphics- The graphics are OK if not a bit blurrrrrrred. I couldn't decide whether the fire effect was really good or really bad. The animation is quite smooth. Not really too colourful. Sound- Really bad. I don't know if the kick is meant to sound like a kick because it is little more than a beep. Music- This is repetitive and annoying. Basically just turn the volume right down to avoid annoyance. Play control- The controls stay the same with each of the monsters and the monsters all have the same strength and speed. You have to get the position pixel perfect if you want to climb up a building from standing, so I usually jump on. It gets quite annoying when you eat a person- why does the monster have to stand still to eat and get blasted by the helicopter- does he think eating on the move will make him feel ill? Final Analysis- I suddenly realised that Midway had not ruined this game- it was crap in the first place. I was just too young to realise. Good for a short play when you are stuck on a decent game like an rpg. My 5 year old brother loves it, older players won't.
