Super Gameboy System by Nintendo Reviewed by The Avardancer Released: 1994 Height: About 5 Inches Width: 5 and 1/4 inches Depth: About 1 Inch Weight: About the same as a SNES cartridge. (Less than half a pound.) Colors on-screen: 32 in screen, 256 in Border. Total Palette: Same as SNES (Unknown at time of writing.) Opening Snide Remarks: This is a device that lets you play old Gameboy games in COLOR. On your TV with your SNES. Hmm. You lose Portability to gain some color. Interesting trade-off. I hope it is worth it. Impressions: The device has an easy to use interface that can be manipulated with the SNES mouse as well. Press the L & R buttons at the same time to access the menu. Games can make use of 32 premade pallettes, 8 normal borders to choose from plus the Super Gameboy borders, and a "create your own" border to use. You can also assaign colors to the different shades of gray in the games. Make Black one color, white one color, etc. You also have two control schemes to use as well. You can save your color palletes by writing down a code and inputing the code later one. Liked: I like the color schemes for some of the games, I also like the Super Gameboy compatable games that feature such vibrant colors. Some games feature two-player to four-player compatability. A few feature voice, sound enchancements, speed enchancements, special super Gameboy features and one game even features a full fledged Super NES game inside the Gameboy cartridge that is only accessed by putting the cartridge in the Super Gameboy. The colors on most games vary; but some of them are VERY nice! This device makes games like the Original Wario Land 2, Pokemon, and Game and Watch Gallery look better than they do in Gameboy Color! Hated: I can not save my border! The color pallettes are a bit off. You have to mess around with the Color Scheme creator to find good palletes. The thing IS NOT portable. It also looks unstable on top of the newer models of the Super Nintendo. You need to buy an adaptor to use a Game Genie on it. The device seems obsolete now that Gameboy Color is here. The Game Link cable can not be used here. Final Words: Are you at home and your Gameboy Color is out of batteries? Do you crave some large screen Pokemon? Get a Super Gameboy! It's an excellent purchase and is a fairly good device. Try the codes! Press L, L, L, L, R to see the screensavers for each frame. (Some do not have a screens saver.) Press R, R, R, L, L, L, R, R, R, R, R, R to see the SUPER GAMEBOY CREDITS. Score: 80%
