Speedy Gonzalez Game by Sunsoft Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Size: 2 Megabits Save: Password Released: 1993 Works with: all Gameboy models Opening Snide Remarks: I always have liked Speedy Gonzalez. I hope that his Gameboy debut is good too. Gameplay: Speedy is a platform game with jumps galore, one-hit kills, and enemies that you can kill by jumping on their head. If you think that you have played the exact same game before but with a different name, you're right, but this game is just different enough. Speedy plays a lot like Sonic The Hedgehog, and is the closest that Gameboy players will probably ever get. Graphics: Pretty good graphics for a platformer, with large characters and speedy graphics. Sonic style loop-de-loops are also present and are cool. When Speedy hits a spring and shoots across the ground you could really see the Sonic influence. Sound: Standard sound effects are what you'd expect and what you get. Music: The music in Speedy is excellent. There are varying themes to the music depending on what zone you are in. An excellent rendition of the Looney Toons theme song is present when the game begins. Play Control: The play control is excellent but very simple. The joypad controls Speedy while the "A" button makes Speedy jump. Speedy is a bit floaty though. Final Analysis: Speedy Gonzalez is an excellent game that really impressed me. It's the closest thing to a Sonic game that the Gameboy will probably ever get. You really shouldn't ignore it because it is just another platform game.
