Super Mario Land Review Game by Nintendo Review by The Avardancer Size: 512 Kilobits Save: None Released: 1989 Works with: Any Version of Gameboy Opening Snide Remarks: This is Mario's first Gameboy Adventure. The Kingdom of Sarsaland has been taken over by Tatanga - An evil alien who looks so dang cool in the comic book series by Valiant - and Mario must stomp Tatanga to save Princess Daisy. (No relation to Princess Peach Toadstool.) Hmm. Sounds okay so far. Look! Mario also has two vehicles to help him kick Tatanga's metal and leather bum. The Sky Pop, and the Marine Pop. (The names are dumb. I know.) Well, shall we be off? Gameplay: This plays a lot like the original Super Mario Bros. That's good. PLUS, there are two levels that automatically scroll and play a little like R-Type. Good stuff. Graphics: Small; but clear. I like how they spell out stuff with coins, and the bosses look good too. Music: Not exactly Top 10 material; but they aren't intrusive, or bland. They really sound like remixed versions of Super Mario Bros classics. The music varies in quality. Some of the songs are just forgetable; but the music during the credits is worth beating the game for. The ending music is grand, melodic, and definately top-notch. The credits music rules!!! Sound: Standard Mario jump and stomp sounds. They do the trick; but there's nothing notable about the sound. It doesn't sound muted or flat. Play Control: Mario games usually excel in this category; but this one.... carries on the tradition well. The Play Control is responsive and natural. It controls like Super Mario Bros 3 does. (No floaty or loose control here!) Final Analysis: This game is nice, it's nice like warm mittens, it's nice like nice things. I would reccomend it to people who like games. Good stuff. Buy it. It just plays better than most platform games. Did I forget to mention that you get to play a bonus game if you reach the top exit of a level. Good stuff here. Oh, and there's secret places, and bricks. Yeah, and cool bosses. This is all that and a ball of string. Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: **** Sound: **** Music: ***** Play Control: ***** Total:23 out of 25 Final Score: 92% Currently known codes: Extra Hard Mode: Beat the game once.
