Street Racer Game by Ubi Soft Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Size: 4 Megabits Save: Password Released: 1996 Works with: all Gameboy versions Opening Snide Remarks: I've been wanting to buy a racing game for my Gameboy for a while. I found Street Racer at Best Buy for 12 bucks. I hope it doesn't suck. Gameplay: This game plays like a poor man's Mario Kart. You drive around the track while avoiding debris, picking up power-ups, and fighting with your opponents. The tracks have lots of twists and turns and your really never know what's around the next corner. There are some other modes of play as well. There's a modified soccer game where you drive your car around a soccer field and try to get a soccer ball into the goal. There's also a rumble mode which is very reminiscent of the death matches in F Zero-X for the N64. There is also a practice mode. Graphics: The graphics in Street Racer are not all that great. The cars tend to blend in to the road quite a bit, which leads to losing sight of your car. This does not make the game unplayable, but it is a little annoying. The different tracks are designed very well and are very dissimilar to each other. There's one track where it is raining, and when it the thunder cracks prepare yourself for a very cool effect. Sound: The sound effects are excellent and are somewhat subdued during races so that they do not drown out the excellent music. Music: The music in Street Racer is fantastic. Each track has it's own music. The music in this game is very disparate. For instance, The Japan tracks' music does not sound like the music of the American tracks. Play Control: The play control is excellent in Street Racer. The controls are not overly complicated, but yet are not super simple. You can steer, accelerate, brake, use turbo boosts, fight with your hands, and shoot rockets. Final Analysis: Street Racer is a great racing game. If you love Mario Kart or just need a racing game the Street Racer is a must buy.
