Tamagotchi GB Game by Bandai/Nintendo Reviewed by The Avardancer Size: 4 Megabits Save: Battery, 1 Slot Released: 1997 Works with: Any version of Gameboy. Opening Snide Remarks: Hmm. There's something strange about this one. Anyone remember theose little Egg things that beep? Of course you do. Well, this is one of those neat-o Virtual Life Forms; but it's for Gameboy. It saves your progress, you can turn it off; AND you can turn down the volume! Wow. This is the Virtual Pet you need! Gameplay: Unlike a normal Tamagotchi; this one is better. There's more to do; more options, more games, more different little creatures, and LESS annoyance; because you can even send it home at any time! Then, there's more of a complex nature to these little bugs now. They get smarter, stronger, and you can enter them in a contest against other Tamagotchi creatures! Bandai has built a better Tamagotchi! Oh, and Bandai packed this game with secrets, the secrets are random; but some of them are just cool. The main idea is to take care of some eggs that crash-landed on the Earth. You do this by raising the Tamagotchi's that hatch from the eggs to be adults. You have a limited amount of eggs; and when those eggs are gone.. it's GAME OVER! But, don't you worry; because you can just start a new game. You can save the stats of your favorite Tamagotchi creatures in the games memory for bragging rights later. And if you're lucky; then a Tamagotchi may lay another egg for you! (Um, that's just wierd.) You can name your pet as well with a name up to six letters. You can also raise a total of three eggs at a time. The mini-games are simple; but fun. Pretty cool game, actually. Loads of fun for those who dig virtual life. Graphics: The graphics are sharp, great on Super Gameboy; and the animation is just to funny! When a Tamagotchi "does it's business"; the animation there is hilarious. And I know this sounds morbid; but the first time you see the death animation you will feel sad; but the second time you see it; you'll just die laughing at the VERY cheesy death throes of the Tamagotchi. There's some great animations like laying eggs or getting mad. Or when your Tamagotchi does things. It's just too much fun to watch. The game also makes fabtastic use of Super Gameboy with it's multiple frames, and good color schemes. Use the DOWN pallette when playing with a Gameboy Color. Sound: There's the bleeps, and those could get annoying; but they aren't really annoying at all now. Oh, and check out the heart beat in the death sequence! Music: It's there and it's HAPPY! Some of it is good; but some of it is bad. The death music is one of the best melodramatic pieces of music I have ever heard. (It could put Final Fantasy to shame.) If you earn the Sound Test you can change the speed of the music. :) Play Control: Everything's fine and dandy here. The menu screens are well done and easy to use. Final Analysis: Want a Virtual Pet? Get this one. It's the best there is. Good stuff. AND it's got a TON of things in it! I like mine. This is THE best virtual pet game you can get. Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: ***** Sound: **** Music: **** Play Control: **** Total: 22 out of 25 Final Score = 88% Currently Known Codes Flush it!: When your Tamagotchi is squirming because of you-know-what hit the duck button and an animation will appear with the Tamagotchi on a toilet. This doesn't work on the first forms though. Music Mode: Just fill up the roster of Tamagotchi Records; or get a Tamagotchi to lay in egg to get this option. It's a great Sound Test.
