Tetris Attack Game by Nintendo/Intelligent Systems Reviewed by Adrock gbcam@hotmail.com Size: 4 megabits Save: Password Released: 1995/1996 Works with: All Game Boys. Opening Snide Remarks: Before I played Tetris Attack on Game Boy, I played it on SNES. I really loved it! My favorite mode was VS. Com. When I got the game for Game Boy, it was cool too! Let me explain why this game belongs in your collection. Gameplay: Tetris Attack was released a little after Yoshi's Island, so the engine inherited a Yoshi theme. It suits the game well! You play by switching blocks into horizontal or vertical rows (of at least three blocks) by their type, then they will disappear. To switch, you use a cursor that will flip-flop two blocks vertically. You can make blocks disappear by 6 or more at one time by making just one switch. Also, when making a row disappear, if it makes another row line up from the fallen blocks, you will get a combo. Experts can line up the blocks just right to get combos of 3 or 4 actions at a time. You have 5 modes in the game: Endless: Play for a high Score, until you lose! Kind of like Game A in Tetris. Time Trial: Play for the highest score you get in two minutes. Stage Clear: Like an action game, you play level by level. Finish levels by moving all blocks under the finish line. Puzzle: You must clear the entire board with a limited amount of moves. Vs. Com: Play like you would against another player, but with a storyline and characters from the Yoshi's Island series. Graphics: It looks really nice. The scenes between gameplay look and feel a lot like Yoshi's Island. It's also the only game boy game with a "Tetris" name on it that has a cute look to it, so if you have anything against cuteness, you might want to look elsewhere. The animation is very smooth, and you'll get fireworks if you win. It's the puzzle equivilent of Goldeneye. Sound: Pop pop pop! The sound can only aid the fun. Music: This game has the best music I've ever heard on a Game Boy. It's not annoying, repetitive, or hard on you ears! And that are the three biggest characteristics of most Game Boy games! It sounds just like the SNES version. Play Control: No problems. The game is quick to react to your commands. The game has an arcade feel, as well. Final Analysis: Well, what's missing is a tutorial mode, like the SNES version. Plus, the VS. mode is like playing against a metronome... You'll get a line block added every couple of seconds, and that's it; The SNES version actually had AI. But, none the less, it is a nice game, it belongs in any puzzle gamer's collection. It has more replay value then a lot of puzzle games out there.
