Tennis Game by Nintendo Reviewed by Adrock gbcam@hotmail.com Size: 512 kilobits Save: None Released: 1989 Works with: Any Game Boy **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: I don't like Tennis but Tennis likes me. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: One of the first things Nintendo did with the Game Boy is; they made generic sports games. Golf. Baseball. Tennis. This is one of them. These games were not too complicated, in fact they were really simple. And sometimes really frustrating. But this is one of those games that turned out kind of fun. It is your average game of Tennis. You can play against a computer, or a friend ina link-up game. The CPU opponents are tough, and take some time to conquer, but the plus side of this is that it doesn't hit too hard too soon, and lets you choose from four difficulty levels. People who like Tennis will have fun. Personally I think the game of Tennis SUCKS... It's not one of the pimpish sports like Football or Basketball. But I still had a little fun with this game. Liked: Fun game. Mario is the guy who sits in that chair that is up real high, that's cool. Hated: Don't go by your first couple minutes of play, because the game will frustrate at first. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: I was happy to see that the characters in this game are nice and big. It's a big improvement from the tiny characters of Baseball. The game has a cartoonish look to it, and the graphics are simple, but none-the-less they are fun. Liked: Big characters. Hated: Simple graphics. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Music is upbeat, and may cause your nerves to stiffen up, thus missing shots. But if you don't want it, there is an option to turn it off. Sound FX include hitting the ball, and the roar of the audience. Liked: Good all-around Music and Sound FX. Hated: Some sounds can get repetitive. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Hit detection is good, but it might look like you can't make the hit when you can. The feel of the racquets is sometimes unbalanced. Liked: Good hit detection. Hated: Some possible shots look impossible. Racquets feel weird. **************************************************************************** Improve: Needs a lot more options. The play is too basic. I thought a custom player option would be cool, and trading these players would be even cooler. RIYL: Tennis, a cheap thrill. **************************************************************************** Final Words: Tennis does the job. But there may be better games for tennis fans on the market that I have yet to play. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: **** Graphics: **** Sound/Music: **** Play Control/Game Design: *** Personal Opinion: *** Total: 18 out of 25 Final Score: %72 **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: Easy score: When it is your turn to serve. Try and make the ball hit your opponents head. If it does... you get an automatic point. This code may or may not work on the rereleased version of the game.
