Tennis Game by Nintendo Reviewed by DeathPunk Size: 512 kb Save: Nil Released: 1989 orginal/1998 re-released Works with: All [best on color] Opening Snide Remarks: Hey what'd want from me? It was only $9.95! Gameplay: I really didn't expect that I, of all people could EVER enjoy playing tennis, but this lil' game is acually kinda fun, even though there is absolutely no plot, no choice of characters, no options, only TWO different swings, and gameplay that reminds me of a freeware windows game. It does have a brutal A.I. though, Hey maybe i'm just awful at this game, but i can't even win the first match!! Also it's one of those simple games that you can play just for like 5 minutes or so. Really, really shines when your in a waiting room. Graphics: Maybe it's programed for it [remember i'm playing the 98' re-release] but the default GB color pallete is perfect!! Green court, white lines, the bad guy is has peach colored skin, black hair and is wearing a white "tennis" outfit!! The only problem is that your only one color, bright blue! But besides the fact that you look like a blue-berry, it most likely had SOME GBC enhancement. Also the game sports crystal clear, big on screen characters, not to mention mario in the judge's chair!! For some reason tennis looks suprizingly good!! Especially when you learn that this game is TEN YEARS OLD!!!! Sound: BLIP......BOP.....BLIP....that pretty much sums it up. Music: Horrid music, but you can turn it off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [and turn it off you will] Play Control: Fairly responsive control. The people move a little too slow, and your racquet control is a little off, but it doesn't hamper the game as much as you would think. Also if you line up a shot "perfectly", sometimes the ball will hit you!! So at all times you have to be slightly to the side of the ball to hit it. Final Analysis: This game is perfect for what it is, a simple tennis game. While it is addictive and fun, the only time you'll really play this game is to burn time [like in waiting rooms, long car rides etc.] Newer games like wario land 2, zelda dx, and pokemon are great games that are good enough to play at home like or in the place of console[n64] games, but Tennis really takes you back to the original pupose of the gameboy. Nobody at nintendo expected the GB to become the most owned system of all time, or the fact that it's games would become so complex that they we're in reality better than most console system's games. The original Game Boy was just a time waster, and Tennis, being one of the first games for the elite system, is just that.
