Top Gear Pocket Game by Kemco Reviewed by @XE Peteraxe@netzero.net Size: 8 megabits Save: password Released: 1999 Works with: GAME BOY COLOR ONLY!!! Opening Snide Remarks: 1) A rumble pak in a Game Boy cart?! Yep, but if you leave it on while its in your pocket, you'll go blind! Gameplay: Before you start busting my nuts here, I don’t generally like racing games. Ok, here we go: Well, this beat out Pokémon Pinball by a few months with its Rumble Pak, but the rumbler is a good thing. Actually, the Rumble Pak makes the game lots more fun than it would’ve been without it, but it eats up an extra AAA battery to play with the rumble option on. The gameplay was reminiscent of "Rad Racer" on the NES. Man, I have some memories of that one... Anyway, you get 2 cars and 3 tracks to choose from at the start, but you earn more for winning races. And when you bump into cars, slam the brakes, skid, powerslide, ride on the shoulder, etc, you get jolts of varying intensity depending on the event from the Rumble Pak. I have found myself driving on the shoulder for a long race just to experience its rumbliness... but I came in last. I wish rumbles were a good thing! Graphics: Once again, all I could think of was "Rad Racer" on my old NES. Looks just like it! Great implementation of the GBC’s color palettes, best I have seen so far. Sound: The sound is ok, and the sounds sort of sound like what its supposed to represent, but they don’t sound very real... Music: There's music ... but none while you're driving. The tunes *are* good, but the lack of driving music hurts this title. (Yes, I ripped that from the "Race Driving" review. Shame on me, but its true...) Play Control: The play control is great, responsive, and all that jazz. Final Analysis: If you have a GBC (you get a message telling you that its for "GAME BOY COLOR only" if you try it in the older systems.) GET THIS GAME! The gameplay is nostalgic, the graphics are the most colorful I have yet seen on the GBC, and it is just plain fun to play. Score Gameplay: *** Graphics: ***** Sound: *** Music: * (because of lack of music while racing) Play Control:** Final Score: 78% Currently Known Codes: dunno.
