Tumble Pop Game by Data East/Re-released by Sunsoft Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Save: Passwords Released: 1992 Works with: all Game Boy versions **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: I knew nothing about this game when I bought. The only reason that I bought it is because it was only $10. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: In Tumble Pop, you play as this guy who has a giant vaccuum cleaner on his back. You need to destroy every enemy on a level to clear a level. This is done by sucking enemies up with your vaccuum cleaner. The only problem is that your vaccuum can only suck for so long before it must blow out what it sucked in. So what you need to do is suck up a few enemies and then release them at other enemies to destroy all of them. This is mixed in with a few platform elements. There are also stores where you can buy power-ups. This is a huge game with a ton of levels. The game is very fun to play, but each level is basically the same with just a different design. There's also a Vs. Mode for 2 players and an Edit Mode with which you can create your own levels. This is the first GB game that I have ever seen with an Edit Mode. This is a feature that more games, GB or anything else, should have. Liked: Unique gameplay. Hated: Repetitive levels. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: Tumble Pop's graphics are above average for a Game Boy game. The characters are pretty large and fairly well-detailed. The backgrounds are empty. The only on-screen elements besides the characters are the platforms that you will need to navigate. Liked: Above average graphics. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Tumble Pop has some excellent music. It's definitely right up there with some of the best that the Game Boy has to offer. The sound fx are about what you would expect from a fairly old GB game. Liked: Great music. Hated: The same old Game Boy sound fx. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Tumble Pop has some old-school controls. You move with the D-pad and the "A" or "B" button controls your vaccuum cleaner. That's all, but that's all that you need. The controls are very responsive. The game design is good but I wish that there were some more level designs. Liked: Perfect controls. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Improve: Add another style of play to the mix. RIYL: Dig Dug. **************************************************************************** Final Words: Tumble Pop is a very unique game that somehow fell through the cracks. This is a game that deserves to be in almost every GB owner's collection. It's a classic in my book. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: **** Graphics: *** Sound/Music: **** Play Control/Game Design: ***** Personal Opinion: **** Total: 20 out of 25 Final Score: 80 % **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
