Gameboy Camera: "Legend of Zelda Special Edition" Game by Nintendo/Game Freak Reviewed by The Avardancer Size: 8 Megabits Save: Battery Released: 1998, Mail-Order Only. Works with: Any Version of Gameboy **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: I have reviewed the Gameboy Camera before; but THIS is a Special Edition Gameboy Camera. :) It's gold colored and it has a few new stamps, and some new Album B pictures. Other than that it's mostly the same; except for some fairly significant differences that I must address in this review. Although... I doubt you will be able to find one of these babies; if you do... I'll fill you in on the scoop. I'll let you n=know if this Camera is a solid gold purchase or just pyrite... **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: The camera is a bit strange in this section. You see, the basis of the camera is to take pictures. There are also four different games and lots of artistic tools. There are stamps for you to edit your own creations, a paint option and more to use. The special edition though has different stamps than the normal version. You see, the Pokemon and Mario Bros stamps are gone. You can trade pictures between the versions and you can also print out your creations on the Gameboy Printer for use as stickers. :) The camera is mostly the same. You have a lot of options to choose from. The games are great fun. There is an adaption of Ball, a sequel to Space Fever, a D.J. Mode, and a button mashing game called "Run! Run! Run!". All of the normal features like the useless "Run" option are still here. You can make your own Animation, and set up little "Hot Spot" pictures. The "Hot Spot" pictures are a bit strange as they are not really meant to be played with by whoever made them. You can set them up and your friends can click through the pictures to find hidden surprises. You can set up little "Clicking RPG" games with this. The camera is as fun as you make it. The bad point about this fun? Hmm. Well, being a machine... the camera doesn't know right from wrong. So.. don't use it for pornography or anything.... (Shoot! I gave them an idea!) Liked: The gold color of the casing and the fun little program inside that shell. :) Hated: They could have just added the Legend of Zelda stamps; instead of removing the Mario Bros and Pokemon stamps. I would love more stamps and some MORE Album B pictures. But, the camera doesn't supply those items. D.J. Mode is a bit complex for some players. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The new stamps are cool. The basic graphic interface is pretty weird in it's presentation; but that's cool. The pictures you take are ONLY as good looking as you make them. Of course there are a lot of painting and stamp options to make your pictures kickin'. The pictures are kinda low in resolution; but there are still pretty cool. Liked: The weird animations. Making Navi the last boss of Space Fever 2 and blowing that annoying fairy rainbow away! (Heh. Heh. Heh.) Hated: Umm. If you don't have any skills.... your pictures are gonna bite in a majorly rancid and viral way. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: The sound effects and music are pretty cool; because there's a LOT of them and you can even write your own!! Liked: Making my own music is awesome. I Also dig the credits music and all the flippy stuff you can do in D.J. Mode. Hated: I wish the keyboard in D.J. Mode was a little bit longer so I could have even longer songs. Inexperienced people will make music that hurts in bad places. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: The pictures and games are simple; but there is an added complexity in the other items like "Animation", "Hot Spot", "D.J. Mode" and etc. The game is designed to be open ended and allow for creativity to run amok in the program. There are a few limits' but most people won't ever notice them or even come close to them. Most of those "limitations" can be worked around. The camera is an excellent device. Liked: The play control is soooo easy! The game is as fun as you make it! Hated: It won't be fun; if you are a completely dull, unimaginative person. **************************************************************************** Improve: Two Words: MORE STAMPS!!! Now, three more words: LONGER SONG SCALE! Oh, a color version of this would be cool; but it would most likely cost an arm and/or other appendages. Maybe if they just resolution and released a version with a color interface and a black and white camera. RIYL: Dig gadgets? Dig novelty? well, the Gameboy Camera is excellent. This camera though is more of an "add-on" to your normal Gameboy Camera. **************************************************************************** Final Words: The different stamps are cool; but I miss the Pokemon and Mario Bros ones. If you own a Gameboy Camera and can track this one down... get it! It makes a great "companion" module for your current Gameboy Camera. I trade pictures back and forth to edit them with the new stamps and other cool stuff. I wish a few new "Frames" had been included. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: **** Sound/Music: ***** Play Control/Game Design: ***** Personal Opinion: *** Total: 22 outr of 25 Final Score: 88% **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: Requirements for B Album Pictures: b17: Shoot 60 Pics b18: Delete 60 Pics b19: Transfer 15 Pics b20: Receive 5 Pics from Males b21: Receive 5 Pics from Females b22: Print 30 Pics b23: Score 3,000 Points in Space Fever II b24: Score 5,000 Points in Space Fever II b25: Score 7,000 Points in Space Fever II b26: Score 500 Points in Ball b27: Score 700 Points in Ball b28: Score 1,000 Points in Ball b29: Finish Run! Run! Run! in 17 Seconds b30: Finish Run! Run! Run! in 16 Seconds Run! Run! Run! : To get Run! Run! Run! you must play Space Fever II and get a high score of 2,000 points. Some people find Space Fever II hard to play, but if you stay in the middle of your screen and stay still, pressing A as fast as you can, you should be able to play to at least 2,000. Keep practicing. To play Run! Run! Run! Press A and B as fast as you can. Press Up to jump over hurdles. The mole will be your toughest opponent. If you raise the flag after beating the game in First Place, fireworks will go off. Other Tricks: * To flip a stamp, hold A for about two seconds then release. * If you have the Printer, hold feed while turning it on for a test print. It is Mario saying "hello". * To unlock the credits get 22 seconds in Run! Run! Run! * To print out sheet music for your DJ stuff, go to the Sound I screen, push and hold Start then press A. * Holding Up and Down at the Title Screen will make Mario dance faster or slower. This trick also works for Slide Show and the Mouth in "View".
