Chichicastenango

Guatemala In Pictures

Chichicastenango is one of the major Mayan markets towns in El Quiche.  It is about a three hour drive from Guatemala City.  The market days are Thursday and Sunday.  On these days the town is inundated with all sorts of goods, agricultural, artisan, livestock, handicrafts, etc.  The place becomes a beehive of commercial activities.  In a nutshell these pictures try to capture the essence of the trading activities on an early Thursday morning.  If you travel to Chichicastenango I recommend that you do it on a market day.  Be ready to bargain and above all enjoy this unique experience!
