On Sunday August 26, 2001, there was a noon service at our temple for Repayment of Gratitude to Our Parents during the month of Ullambana (praying for deliverance from suffering for all sentient beings and gratitude to monks) under the direction of Upasaka Thi-Tu Nguyên Danh Huân, with Upasaka Nguyên-Ðao Lê Tân Ðúc beating the mõ and Upasaka Nguyên-Luc Lê Ðúc Hùng striking the bell.  There were 75 participants.  Our president announced the posting to our Web page of the 11th and 12th chapters of the Vietnamese Avatamsaka Sutra and invited them to visit for study.

The ladies were recuperating today from the previous weekend ceremonies, so Upasika Nghiêm-Ngoc was all by herself in the kitchen.  Luckily, the young ladies from the Buddhist Youth Group were present and were happy to lend a hand, and the lunch was perfect; they were Lê Kim Chi and Lê Holly (frying rice vermicelli and sweet potatoes), Pham Thanh Châu, Van Thi Huê, Lê Helen, and a lady arriving later Nguyên Thi Ngoc My.  The youngest members of the Buddhist Youth Family followed Upasika Nguyên-Diêu Nguyên Xuân Mai to their Vietnamese class.  The grown-ups helping cleaning up and tending the flower beds were Lê Ðúc Hùng, Lê Ðình Yên Qúy, Ðoàn Van Hoc, Ðoàn Van Chánh, Lê Công Huy, Nguyên Lê Richard ... May them be well and happy for their good deeds!

After the ceremony, the assembly sat down for a vegetarian lunch consisting of fried rice vermicelli, fried sweet potatoes, salted preserved white eggplants, mushroom and sprouts salad, tofu casserole, boiled winter squash ... served on rice, and desserts.  The ladies and youngsters from the Buddhist Youth Group stayed for cleaning up.  May the Buddhas bless them all!
